Draft: Hamish Hartlett

Seems to have fallen out of consideration for pick 5 in recent months, but was BOG for mine at the champs games at the Dome.

Looks to be a pretty good midfielder, but a bit lightweight to consider for much first team action next season. He certainly doesn't look physically right to do a Palmer.

He does look quite thin on the field but he is more than capable to mix it with the big boys. Played senior SANFL over in SA and did considerably well.

Has got a good burst of pace and a good footy brain so he's another we should heavily consider getting with our first pick.

I have Hartlett going at anywhere between four and eight.
Still, wouldn't be too disappointed picking him up at five either.

On the video footage I've seen he's the perfect fit for us.

Looks to me to be a harder and tougher version of Dal Santo.

Will complement our side and midfield the most as he looks to have good speed and skills.

This is the guy who I believe Essendon should draft. Will play senior footy next year, and gives Essendon some real elite class through their midfield. Can also go forward and kick some goals. Has some real class here, and has some tricks as well.

hay guyz, love yas to death,im just a noob and not really a "footy pundit/expert"
but ive heard about the bombers maybe taking chris yarran?
what do you guyz think of him?

hartlett looks way better than yarran for mine. hartlett is the best potential gun midfielder in the draft as whilst he is currently very good he has plenty of scope for development physically unlike some of the others such as rich, ziebell.

hurley or hartlett and i'm pleased.

I must ask, with your overuse of the letter z, are you American? ;)

He looks like a good player but he is too thin, i'd rather have ziebell or Sidebottom

I'd take Hartlett over Ziebell and Sidebottom. When I saw him play he just semmed to have that extra time when he had the ball in traffic and I've heard he is a very good kick which is what we need.

I haven't seen the other two live and have only seen Hamish live once though so I don't have much to base this on.

It's a tough one between this kid and Sidebottom, I'd be wrapt with either.

I'm very impressed with Hartlett's ability to work his way through traffic. All class with pace and great skills, just what we need more of in our young midfield.

I'd take Hartlett over Steele, just.

Would be more than happy with him.

Ant I read your draft profile on Hartlett and it mentioned he is highly skilled on both sides of the body.

After watching some of his highlights (at the champs) I noticed (from those highlights) he didn't really like to use his left that much.

Is this a consistent trait? I'm only going off limited veiwing so I have no clue.

Sidebottom seems (again only from the highlights) more inclined to use his non-preferred, and is very good at it.

If you would elaborate it would be greatly appreciated :thumbsu:

Starting to cool on Hurley as others are

If we are thinking mids, I am warming on Hartlett. Now, must state that I have not seen any of these kids play. However, if I am basing the choice on "player types" - I like the idea of a fast, highly skilled by foot midfielder that can find his way in and out of traffic..

Question becomes - what does hartlett have over Sidebottom?

Zeibell's pace is a slight concern for me over 20m.

He uses his left side when he has to and it works ok:thumbsu:

How would you compare Hartlett's footskills to Sidebottom's?

Whenever you hear Sheanhan (sp?) talk about Hartlett he always sais something like "Hartletts' footskills are just elite" but the day i saw him play against NSW, his kicks were very hit and miss, and didn't appear to have a lot of penertration.

The game before against Vic Country he did not miss a tagret all day. Even in the NSW game his was at 76% eff and i would not say he lacked penetration. He was kicking the ball 50 meters with ease.
Hartlett has a bit more pace than Sidebottom so he does not kick on the left as often becasue he does not have to stop or change dierection as much. He backs his pace to get himslef into the clear.

after also watching hartlett in action on youtube in the under 18's comp. i just wanted to remark this is the kid that eseendon should really pick up at pick 5. Forget Hurley, i say. Sidebottom looks like he is needed some encouragement and would need time to develop, where as this lad hartlett he can fit into Joel Selwood shoe's. if you get the picture :thumbsu:
