Draft / Priority Picks

I think they should introduce the lottery with the top picks, like they do in the NBA, who introduced the lottery to deal with this very problem that we're talking about in this thread.
I believe a mid season draft/trade period would be a great idea for the league, especially with more teams coming in...
Thirdly, might as well start free agency...

free agency is on its way, im not looking forward to it, clubs will get screwed on a regular basis, i know it goes both ways, i dont know maybe im a doomsdayer

would you put the lottery for the top 8 picks? top 4? how would you personally do it.. i guess if it was for say the top 5 or 6 picks it would be ok, because that way if your down the bottom for any length of time you will still be getting a good shot at the best kids..... it would drive me insane to see westcoast get pick 1 if they finished 11th... i wouldnt be able to handle it

midseason trade/draft period i think would be a great idea, strict rules would have to come in though obviously. a lot of planning would have to come into it to make it viable though

I dont think a lot of teams tank.

This year - most clubs down the bottom are just shyte or are playing kids.

I agree, but the perception is... oh your shit... so you must be tanking when clearly that is wrong.


But when you've got the incentive of getting PP the media/public will always assume, no matter who it is on the bottom, that your tanking to get draft picks.

I will never ever advocate tanking in any way shape or form. Realistically though we have to accept we may not win 5 games this season. This isn't because of tanking, this is purely because we're not good enough as yet. As long as we continue to see 100% effort, week in, week out, I'll be happy

Having said all that, I believe the final rounds of the season will go as follows

Carlton - Possible win
Adelaide - Loss (But we have a habit of playing AAMI well)
Brisbane - Who knows?
West Coast - Win
Bulldogs - Loss
Port Adelaide - Loss
Melbourne - 50/50
Essendon - 50/50
Geelong - Flogging

another point, people seem unhappy with thafl draft system... i think it is quite fair. yes it sucks that it is more advantageous for us to lose (draft pick wise), but i cant see how you can make it more equitable... i mean if you bring in a lottery for the first 8 picks and you are melbourne, and you get 8th pick 3 years in a row after coming last each year, that isnt fair either.... i actually seem to be in the minority that likes the draft system

I like the draft system, it's the priority picks I hate.

Teams aren't going to tank just to go one spot up in the draft but the bonus of a whole extra pick is a pretty big temptation.

It sucks the big one that supporters are torn about wanting to win or not - and that comes solely down to priority picks. None of us here would be happy to see us lose just so we could get pick 2 instead of pick 3, it's only the stupid f**king priority picks that put those evil thoughts in our heads.

freo should put pav up for trade and see if use can get a good deal maybe to players for one you need a judd abblet swan etc
