I think De Goey all round is a solid pick and one who will be in our best 22 sooner rather than later. I don't think his ceiling is as high as others, however I think we will be quite happy with what he brings. Certainly a low risk pick and there is nothing wrong with this. I see him playing forward like Beams did and then progressing to the midfield.

I really like the look of Maynard, love his left foot and follows a much needed theme over the last 2 years of guys who can kick the ball properly - De Goey fits this mould too. Maynard I can definitely see doing damage off half back in an area we really needed some help.

Goodyear we will just have to wait & see but back in Hine & Co here.

Surprised Laverde was left so late, but that indicated there are risks associated with picking him, he could be special he could be just so so. Wright is the other that people will be watching. I think had Darcy Moore not been there we would have picked him. Pickett is another I would have loved but GWS were smart enough to scoop him up.

I think we need to look at the last three drafts together to get a grasp of what Hine & Co are compiling:
Grundy
Kennedy
Broomhead
Scharenburg
Freeman
Langdon
Moore
De Goey
Maynard

There is a high chance all nine of these guys will be best 22 within 2 years, that is an outstanding effort in maximising the most out of what you have got. Outside of GWS & GC (for obvious reasons) and perhaps Melbourne I think we will have the best collection of youngsters going forward. This is quite amazing given our ladder position over those years.

Im wrapped.

I cant find the post, but about a week ago i said i wanted either laverde or de goey at 5, and Maynard or Blakely at 30.

I wouldve liked to have pulled the trigger on mckenzie at 75 but we clearly just didnt rate him.

Also wanted a small forward at 48, but goodyear seems to have some talent so ill reserve judgement on that one.

It was clearly a needs based draft for us and we have plugged some holes.

List is probably lacking a bit of x factor, but that may change if elliott, fasolo, freeman, kennedy, broomhead, crisp, varcoe and seedsman have good years

Very happy with De Goey, Moore and Maynard, really good picks.
Don't know much about Goodyear so can't really comment, but hope he gets the best out of himself at the Pies.
Yes, I can't understand the negativity. DeGoey and Maynard have pace, can get their own ball inside and seem to have excellent disposal. Aslo, from their highlights reels, both seem to be very good and clean overhead as well. Have to say I'm pretty optimistic. Moore will obviously take time but has tremendous athleticism for a tall.

Agree - De Goey and Maynard look very promising and looks to have Great Kicks and Very Hard at It Footballers.

Goodyear is Speculative but still could become a Descent Player. Has bit of X-Factor for is Speed and Agility

Watching Goodyears highlights again his kicking issues don't seem to be an issue when he has time, so hopefully the 47% is largely due to his role of inside mid which is under high pressure in most cases.
One of the other posters said Pies have been talking to Goodyear consistently all year so doubt he's a speculative pick.Weve had our eye on him .Remember Oxley saying Pies had spoken to him all year when he was rookied.

I don't think his perceived ceiling as high. But they're at such a young age they can still add extra facets to their game. Based purely on what others have said (I'm talking the draft 'experts' and Hine), De Goey has all the attributes to be a top 10 midfielder. Do I expect him to be that good? Of course not, you'd be kidding yourself if you expected any draftee to be that good, but you'd be plain greedy to ask for much more of a ceiling than that.

Cheers TradeDraft for all the media links mate! Just woke up after night shift and it was a one stop shop for stories on the new boys!. Geez De Goey looks like buck's love child

I'm not so sure Hine believes his ceiling isn't that high. He did make a point of noting that De Goey hadn't had a big amount of top level exposure compared to a lot of other prospects.
Was interesting to hear in Hine's draft wrap up that he had a hard on for De Goey since seeing him as a first year player at the start of last year and wanted to hide him in a cupboard so we could get him. Big wraps on the kid.

When I said perceived it was more re: media/BF/non-professionals.

I remember most people being bewildered when we took Pendles at pick 5. I think lots of people will again have egg on their faces in due course. Our guys are very good at what they do. I'll back em in all day every day.
This is spot on. Whenever I wonder if our guys have got it right I think back to Pendles being drafted and remember thinking "What the F" at the time only to be followed a few months later by "What the F did you think you knew GC" as I bagged myself for ever thinking I had any real idea at all.

I stopped following myself after that.

You should of pressed the Red Button as you just would of seen the Picks
But on the Internet (International) feed, there is no red button, so we only had the 1st round live, then had to put up with the BS & commentators stroking their own collective egos.
The day was supposed to be about the draftees not hack commentators who drive me crazy.
So I switched off the live feed & just followed the draft tracker on the AFL site.

I'm happy with De Goey. I wanted speed and having heard more about Laverde than de goey, I naturally thought that he was going to be our star and de goey would just be a bland footballer. After seeing his highlights and reading more on him, I think he can be quite a dynamic player for us.

I'm looking forward to our midfield having both him and freeman around the clearances. Throw in Adams, Levi, pendles and Danger, and that is some sure ball winning ability.
