With the exception of Moore and Cox we have drafted five players whose height varies between 185 and 187 cms. I'm glad there were no short people but we could have picked at least one taller player!!!!

They must be liking what they've seen from Gault as I feel he is an extremely important depth player for 2015 (Ruck and KPF).

Cox is a long term blue sky project proposition ruckman. Yes, apart from Moore it would be good if we had taken another.

I dont really get the hate towards paige.

I dont take her opinions as gospel, but then there are few who woukd watch as much tac football or under 18 champs.

Plus she does know people in the industry.

I enjoy reading her pieces, but i just put it down as one opinion amongst many others such as KM, Snoop and then the journos like twomey.

KM is the best out there, but even his draft is based on rumours he hears from the media. He admits that many times. But what sets him apart is his power rankings so i get a clearer indication of what he actually thinks vs what he thinks will happen.

Paige probably lets herself down a bit by trying to be a journalist and getting inside scoops. She gets a lot wrong, but then robbo said you could bank on beams staying at the pies.

I think she does a good job. Its just a matter of reading in conjunction with other opinions and not taking it all as gospel

Make sure you do a phantom next year Dave86! People will want to know who we are taking.

I steer away from the phantoms as i only see snippets of players throughout the year. I dont watch near as closely as others, so my opinions are formed through what i read etc.

I must say though i have a good track record tipping our picks, dating back to tipping Sidebottom and beams, then picking scharenberg early last year.

I think ive worked out how Hine recruits. Its not strictly best available. He first finds the greatest area of need on our list, then fills it with 3 or 4 of the best available in that role in the hope 2 come on.


For eg:

In 2005 we needed mids: We took pendles, Thomas, cook and stanley

06 we needed talls: Reid, Brown, Dawes, Goldsack...

08 mids again - Sidebottom, Beams

2013 - we needed half back to replace shaw and ben johnson so we took scharenberg and langdon.

2014 we needed 185cm+ mids and we took de goey, maynard, goodyear and manteit.

Further to my above post, his recruiting style changed between 08-12 with GC and GWS coming in, and also because we entered our window and traded high picks for quality players to round off the list. High picks went on wood, jolly and ball.
