Speaking to a melb based recruiter I know who reckons milera is the real bolter in this draft , wasn't as bullish on Bonner - said his defending and contested work is poor and does his own thing on a football field and not necessarily his role . Said his kicking looks great but surprisingly
misses targets . Also said that he has height , athleticism combo that will attract clubs so not ruling him out to be a good player but compared him to McKenzie of GC ie looks good but not doesn't do the non negotiables always

Also said was disappointed in tuckers season as didn't perform in champs and also lacked the grunt when given opportunity in midfield as was expecting easy ball on outside all the time - but I'm thinking maybe thats exactly what we need

So I think if we get pick 9 we will take H McKay and pick in teens we will go for milera if available as according to him has 'Shaun burgoyne' traits but doesnt win as much ball

The other interesting one is ah chee from WA - different player than his brother at port , a v dangerous small forward who takes marks as a forward and is super quick running under 2.9s in 20m sprint . Has scope to play outside mid but hasn't quite proved it yet. Is prob top 3 or 4 on talent in draft has played well in wafl seniors at end of season and also against VFL teams for AIS where he took that massive hanger which would have won mark of year if in AFL
I haven't seen either play but from what I have read Weideman sounds a lot more appealing than H.McKay. McKay sounds like a Westoff style forward where I think we should be looking for our next power forward who can play out of the goal square and take contested marks which sounds more like Weideman. I know that you take a bit of interest in the under 18's Jeffcrowe and you are a fan of McKay so please convince me why he should be picked ahead of Weideman.

Weideman lacks athleticism big time, McKay has it in spades!

Unfort I haven't seen weidemann play due to his injury , he's a more contested type but apparently lacks athleticism as bicks mentioned below - I can comment on him having not seen him however

but I've seen mckay play live twice and some other vision on TV and I was excited both times by the things he can do

The first game I saw he lead up at pace to a ball and it was kicked over his head , by the time he turned and ran back to goal and scooped up the ball one handed he had got 3-4m separation on his opponent and then steadied and goaled ( remembering he's 200cm)

The second time I watched him vs SA he hauled in about 10 marks and was plucking them so clean and at highest point

His contested marking needs work but he's like a giraffe still , hasn't grown into his body and it will come

The other thing impressed me was his set shot kicking routine ( it was just so repetitive and consistent and he kicked well ) ... which when I asked someone they said it was completely new as he was having problems kicking for goal previously ....so his ability to be coachable and learn is good as well

He's the most unique player in the draft that's for sure .....its a higher risk higher reward sort of pick , a type of pick we have stayed a bit clear of since danger and it may be time to have a crack at a match winner type which I think he may be in future

He could be gone by pick 9 , but if we get pick 9 from geelong it wouldn't surprise me if we go for him here

Thanks to you and Bicks for your comments, like I said I haven't seen any of these guys play.

If McKay can provide a marking target up forward I will be happy enough with him but I am not a fan of these mobile talls who might be good at ground level but cannot do their primary job - provide a marking target. It's all good and well having a 200cm forward who is good at ground level, but if he can't take a contested mark there is not much point in him being 200cm. In that case we might as well play someone who is 185cm who would probably be even better at ground level.

Jenkins has often frustrated supporters for this very reason prior to this year.

yeah I get that, but this kid is much advanced on Jenkins in that department but at this age and stage you wouldn't call it a strength ...hardly a weakness however

in our system from the age of 18 learning off tex and competing with talia he would have a lot of upside

will try get some highlights of some of his marking but struggling to find any highlights of anyone yet

Maybe this is Jack Juniper's year...

I really just wanted to mention his name.

He's no Damien Stupido, I mean Cupido.
Used to know that bloke in some capacity... Wowee is all I can say

Id have a look at Nick Rippon.

Just a kid and has won the Liston (Magarey equivalent) this season ahead of Matt Thomas, Miles Sewell etc.

That "kid" Nick Ripon will be 22 soon, local Ballarat lad, product of St. Pats, the Rebels and the Roosters, finds plenty of the pill, uses it ok, average pace but lacks size to make it as a midfielder in today's AFL system , rookie at best IMO. If we were to rookie another midfielder or late pick IMO local lad Tom Templeton has far more upside, 3 years younger, bigger, far quicker with an excellent left foot, right foot needs a bit of work, has both an inside and outside game, capable of breaking the lines and as hard as a cat's head. Originally from Warrnambool boarding at St. Pats the last couple of years as far as I know so doubt there would be any "go home" factor either. I notice he is included in a group of midfielders put up on the AFC website. I thought he would have at least been rookied last year and he's definitely come on again this year. Another Local Jacob Wheelahan coming off injury early in the season goes good and is definitely draftable IMO.

For those interested in the draft the afl level 1 academy (u17s - next yrs draft crop) plays against the U18s allies (this year's academy kids + NT and tas)

In the U17 group SA kids jonty sharenberg and peter ladhams will be running around with top 5 prospects next year Harrison mcreadie and Ben ainsworth

The U18 allies feature Callum mills , jacob hopper from nsw and Keays , hipwood from Qld

For crows supporters have a look at Mitch hibberd (tas) and Harrison himmelberg (nsw) that the crows have shown some interest in

This is the game last year that rocketed cockatoo into pick 10 of the draft and was the only game he played all year !!

Think it's on foxtel and it's definitely on AFL live app

Ps the game is a curtain raiser to afl gf played sometime on sat morn

Not Jumpin' Jack Juniper!:D
I like the fact that his name almost implies that there should be a "jumpin'" there

22 is still a kid in my books mate :D

And i was referring to a rookie spot or super late draft pick. It's obviously going to be a speculative pick
