List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Lets give it a year or two to see how the points thing works out. This year clubs were more than willing to part with second round selections because the draft was so shallow. There were only about 25 players that anyone rated at all, after which it degenerated into a lucky dip. As a result, these picks had little perceived value to the clubs that were trading them to the Academy clubs.

This means that the Academy clubs got a bit of a free ride due to the nature of the draft. The points value of those picks was probably a bit inflated this year. It will be interesting to see what happens in future drafts, which aren't rated as the worst in living memory. I suspect that clubs won't be quite as willing to give up 2nd & 3rd round picks if they actually think there's a realistic chance of landing a decent player with those picks.

It's also worth noting that the Academy clubs, particularly Sydney, have put all of their eggs in one basket. Sydney got Mills at #3, but their two remaining picks were at #51 and #56 in a draft where the talent was long gone by that stage. They passed on their last 2 selections. That means they will either be taking players in the PSD, or going into the 2016 season with only 38 players on their list. Even if Mills turns out to be a gun, they have still only landed one player and have 4 players (or vacant positions) who are unlikely to make it. This is not sustainable in the long-term, or even the medium-term.

GWS were able to grab 3x Academy players largely because they stayed in the 1st round of the draft. They were also helped by the fact that nobody bid on them with earlier selections. The players they selected (Hopper, Kennedy, Himmelberg) were taken at 7, 13 and 16 for a (discounted) total of 3138pts. Their draft selections (10, 34, 42, 52, 54, 57, 62 & 63) were worth a combined total of 3215pts, with pick #10 accounting for 43% of that total.

The points system could be a good thing, or it could be a disaster. The jury is still out.
Yep, I suspect the AFL will wait rather than do anything. But it does make it tricky to adjust things once the future picks have been traded.

Obviously didn't pass the medical
And he passed the hawthorn medical? Alistair couldnt read his name out quick enough. Il hold my judgement on these young players until they play a few years but we were crying out for a kpf that has elite skills. Burton fit that criteria. Maybe we played it safe regarding his injury and didnt want a 'scharenberg' situation. Either way the recruiters have made the decision to recruit doedee and going by their previous selections in the last few years i think we have to let the dust settle.

Does anyone know the correct pronunciation of our new players' names?

I thought Milera was Mill-er-uh, but the radio presenters were saying My-leer-uh. Which is correct?
The radio presenters were saying Doe-day. Is this correct?
Its miller-a

Some of us at this point are prepared to back the club by pausing and waiting to see how Tom Doedee develops

At this point in time there are no winners or losers in the draft, time will make this judgement
There's a difference between doing that and bagging every person on the board who dares to suggest the club might have gone about getting Doedee a different way.

And as you can see that post was not directed at you.

Crows twitter now trying to suggest Doedee was rater higher on other teams boards. Yeah bullshit
I'm twitter famous. Get around me.

I mean... God that guy is handsome and intelligent. He knows what he is on about.

Hawks probably in good position to take a gamble

His highlights packages dispute that assertion, and if he has a whole catalogue of better kicks not in the videos, the people who compiled the videos need to do some research on what highlights means.

Looks to be a pretty standard kick on a good day, soft and loopy at 40m+, and not particularly accurate at the shorter stuff.

What highlights package are you watching buddy?

Better double check you're not watching Terry Milera's highlights

Hahahaha...well that was hilarious to wake up to (I'm on the other side of the world).

Had never heard the guys name before, brilliant. Highlights look good, big rap from Turner, plenty of upside. Bit odd considering how many freaking medium defenders we have but hey, they're the experts.

Hope not picking Burton doesn't come back to bite us.

I got a feeling we have him earmarked for a midfield role to be honest.

Could be wrong, obviously it's just a hunch, but a Fyfe/Pendlebury hybrid type. Shall wait and see.

Always good on occasions like this to see who unquestionably back the Crows no matter what. No debate allowed. Crows good. Thinking bad.
It's all speculative.

Apparently Doedee was ahead of Burton on our talent list. We have clearly seen something in this kid that most have missed.

Uh oh you just described every Browns pick since 1999.

Pllllllease tell me nobody took a trip to Berea from West Lakes.

Indeed - and next time I see you question a team selection or a coaching move, I can thus expect you'll be handing in your resume to the club?
Fair call. Excuse me.:D
