After the trade camp it looks like West Coast will take 2 West Aussies with picks 3 and 6, believing they are what we need, and the best there are.
Supposed draft(admittebly from Ch10, so not too sure of course)
#1 Lube Ball(hawks)
#2 Hodge(saints)
#3 Polack(WCE)
#4Sampi/Judd(Freo)
#5Sampi/Judd(Saints)
#6Steven Armstrong(WCE)

I've heard Armstrong impressed clubs very highly at the draft camp, and west coast were already impressed with him.

Thoughts?

Frodo, if we don't take Polack at 3, odds on Freo will take him at 4, they don't expect him to be there then, so they'll go for Sampi or Judd. Also, is Armstrong a midfielder?

Why would either West Coast or Freo draft Sampi with one of their high picks? Both teams already have quality small goalkicking forwards in Phil Matera and Jeff Farmer. They deficiencies in too many other areas. Freo badly need good in and under midfielders and perhaps a good full forward. West Coast need... well quite a bit really.

There was a good article on the AFL website on who they thought potential top 10 picks were. I'm trying to find it now but I ain't that easy!

Ok, I can't find it and the fact that I can't find it is pissing me off as well. It was an article on something else but towards the end of the article it started discussing potential top 10 draftees. Its was on the AFL website about 5 days ago and can be found in an article where you wouldn't suspect it to be. Try find it, its like looking for a needle in a haystack!

depends on who St Kilda take at #5 I guess...anyone else think we have a chance at getting Lynch? Tall defender who impressed at the U18?

RE : Armstong. Grandson of ex Perth Legend and Coach Ken Armstrong. Son of Gary Armstrong who is also ex Perth Player and Coach. I was named equal best player at this years 18s carnival. He played league games for Perth this year.

I have not seem him play. But at 175cm I would think him a bit little to suit our needs just now. We have Cousins, Taylor, Fletcher and Kerr to name a few. We need some quick players of the size (say 6 foot or six foot two) of Chick, Black or Woewodin. But doesnt everyone.

Go Eagles!

Just another thought (tongue in cheek). I would not recruit any West Aussies. Then the new recruits could play for the Mighty Royals whilst they are developing and help us win another flag.

Just Shut up all you whingers who say the Royals get an unfair advantage. We were born to rule.

GO ROYALS

First of all, top player not mentioned, a key position/ruckman from Tassie, not exactly what we need, but you draft quality over needs....

As for what we need (IMO, roughly) ..... these are the quality players that we have with a view to the future...

key position - Cox, Gardiner, Jako

midfield - Banfield, Braun, Cousins, Jones, Kerr

flankers - Collica, Matera(s), Read, Wirrpunda

give time category - Fletcher, Gaspar, Embley, Glass, Haynes, McDougall

so, given this ....... I think the midfield/rucks is probably our long-term strength... We will draft Polak with 3, so with pick 6 it would be nice to be looking at a player in the perhaps Brett Burton mold .... strong marking, flanker, actually, who knows, but I'll place emphasis on it again, take the quality player, even if it is the ruck.key position from Tassie, he is very highly rated, and rucks always make good trade bait in the future!!

rant over

I'd be happy with Armstrong at #6. He's a midfielder who has impressed at the Under 18 carnival and the AFL draft camp. Also to our advantage is that he's a Perth boy, who won't cry home over east after 3 or 4 years here.

Some guy called Damon White has apparently impressed at the camp. I wouldn't mind picking him up at #22. Apparently not many scouts have heard much about him, so you wouldn't expect him to be picked up too early.

Also, there must be something like 15 players currently being touted as potential top 5 picks, so our #6 pick could really be anyone. Personally i would like to pick up Judd at #6. He is a 187cm, very fast and very highly skilled midfielder who is ready to play AFL footy next season. If we get him i'll be wrapped!

One thing about the camp. The top players already know who they are and who they want to be drafted by, discussions having already been done with a club or two. They are likely to underperform at the camp. On the other hand more marginal players will put in 110% ad may come up with better results.
