This piece (on the AFL website; no paywall) about Richmond's grassroots recruiting successes, features Oliver Grant (Richmond's Victorian Recruiting Manager).

It got me thinking. Wellsy is such a Genius to constantly stay ahead of the competition. Clubs must be using all types of skullduggery (espionage, rumour/innuendo, misdirection etc) to get ahead. Wellsy with his "my word is my bond" gentlemanly, buttoned-up looks must be the last of a kind!

Anyone with book-recos/links/anecdotes/insights (heck, even urban legends!) into the Drafting Dark Arts? I'm not holding my breath for Wellsy's Tell-All book..

Maybe someone will be inspired by this Thread to write a book on this. #Hereshoping

Good Article, and yes they do it well.
obviously they don't just invite the easy option to there preseason and it has payed off and has created a buzz amongst footballers with talent.
They obviously aren't lazy like most other clubs.

There is a lot of great footballers in country leagues that are going half arse but love being the big fish in the small pond.

Its converting there mentality to having a full crack.

One that hates training but is a gun NEW recruit for bell park is playing beneath himself.

It's disappointing but obviously he doesn't want to push himself to play higher.

These players are everywhere unfortunately

If the 2nd tier comps paid a livable wage, you'd see more competition for those spots. VFL/WAFL/SANFL tv rights don't pull $80-200 million a year.
