They integrate with each other but to it's not the sole factor. Fiora went to St Kilda and was the same dud he was at Richmond. It's a mixture of bad drafting and development, but mainly drafting. Let me put it this way, do you think spuds like Schulz, JON, Pettifer, etc would be superstars at other clubs? Meyer can't crack a game at Port, Rodan in an and out of the team. Maybe 1 in 10 would become better at different clubs but not the majority. We seriously need to look at the problems with our recruiting over the last 10 years and rectify it fast.

Some bad decisions made in recruiting no doubt. But its not like no other club rated the players we selected either. They all had talent that we couldnt develop effectively.

I have no doubt Schulz would be a better player had he been drafted elsewhere. Port Adelaide obviously felt we were not getting the most out of him. I feel sorry for any key forward drafted to Richmond in the last 10 years.

David Rodan has played nearly every game for Port since they picked him up (55 out of 57)and has had some great games.

Pettifer clearly has ability and at another club I reckon he might have developed a harder edge.

Clearly Fiora's problem was his mindset and we were unable to fix it.

Danny Meyer had injury troubles at Richmond and reports from Port preseason were that they thought he looked the goods. Would probably have been elevated to the senior list if he didnt hurt his hand and miss a couple of Practice matches.
He has been playing good footy in the SANFL and was named in their state squad this year. He is only rookie listed so needs things to go his way to get a game.
Dont be surprised if he turns into a good pick up for Port.

Hehe the Wallace apologist strikes again. While there is a lot of truth in the OP, the underlying theme of your post is garbage.

Inventing your own underlying themes as you go and saying a whole lot of nothing again Beav?

Excuse me?

There were five first pick draft selections mentioned in chronological order GtF, it's not a value judgement.

Wouldn't have mattered who we picked Rayzor, without the proper off field support in place i.e development coaches, they would have just ended up like the ones we did pick up, miserable failures.

To some degree I agree with that RT, Frawley's era of coaches certainly did us no favours telling players like Fiora they were safe for 5-6 years just coasting along, and no doubt others got the same spiel - none of the juniors around that age bracket were even close to half-fit when Wallace arrived.

Certainly our financial problems and the delay in getting a specialist development coach has hurt us.

On the other hand, a larger part of me is old school and says that genuinely good players don't need a lot of coaching on what it takes to be a good player.

On that score, we blew our first round selection eight out of nine drafts prior to the 2004 draft picking players that weren't genuinely good IMO.
