Stepped up to the next level (Just like I thought he would... ;)). :thumbsu:

Fought back after a bad turnover and giving away a free early in the game. Well done young man - 4 goals; a couple of ripper contested marks.

Onya Drummy! :thumbsu:

Yeah, i've wanted him in the side for a while too. The criticism of Connolly was he didn't have enough faith in the younger blokes like Duffield, Drum, etc.... who if backed in over several weeks could turn into good AFL players.

Drummy played really well - great to see him get a chance and grasp it with 4goals!!

Good to see Duff get some decent game time too!

Drum best position seems to be as a third forward (Good hands, accurate kick and speed off the mark), something he isn't allowed to do at WAFL level.

Lets hope he can follow it up with a similar performance next week.

Drummy has played 6 games for us now for 5 wins. The only loss being in his first game, against Sydney. i think we were up at 3 qtr time too. Good Stuff.:thumbsu:

Puts pressure on Murphy and Campbell. No longer are they thought of as the third tall, more as back up to Taz and Pav. One of them will definately be traded this year unless Pav goes.

Well, one of them will be traded if anyone wants them....

I think the most exciting thing about both Drummy and Nockers is that, like it was discussed in a thread we had going earlier in the year - we are all hanging out for the young fellas to step up and play more than just a small cameo where they have little impact. We look to Collingwood and Geelong and Port for example, and we see Thomas and Pendlebury and Selwood and Westhoff and these young first and second year players tearing it up - and we want soen of the same.

So now we see our second year players in Drummy coming in for his first game of the year and kick 4 goals, and Warnock showing - it's fair to say - pretty freakish skills and agility for a guy who's 6'10"... and it's exciting and they are showing us the future!

Keep it up fellas!! :thumbsu:

I guess the difference IP for me is that where Collingwood's, Ports and to a lesser extent Geelong's youngsters addressed a real problem area for them (Namely aspects of their midfields), and as a consequence the whole team benefited.

Our youngsters whilst undoubtedly talented, provide talent in areas which were not super-critical from our team point of view. Drum isn't a midfielder, and has probably suffered because he is competing in areas that we are already strong in (IE. Third Tall Forward or Third Tall Defender).

I will be really disappointed if we pull another Drum this year and draft say Cale Morton because he is the "best available talent", instead of targeting the best midfielder. There has to be some thought go into it from an overall team and list perspective. Talent soon becomes unexciting if it isn't likely to lead to any team success...

Connolly got Drum to Freo.

Both from the same town in country Vic (shepparton) and Connolly had followed Drum's progress since his junior days.

He had always wanted him at Freo and got him.

Drummy is a gun and will be a superstar, but from all reports his form at WAFL level hadn't warrented selection.

Rapt he finally got a guernsey and here's hoping the form continues
