Has to stay in the team imo, very impressed with him tonight.

We're a team desperate for more scoring X-factor and I'd be more than willing to sacrifice someone like DeBoer to fit Ballas, Walters and Duffy in the same team.

Rushed a couple of shots but that's pretty understandable considering he's was thrown in during probably the most intense qtr we've been involved in all year. If he can handle that as well as he did he should be able to handle anything. Managed to stay consistently involved when the heat was at its hottest and showed some real touches of class in the clinches.

(Our other X-factor dude Croz should stay in too, but I figure that goes without saying after his performance tonight)

just want to temper the sentiment a touch

I thought he actually benefitted from the re-structure we needed with luke going down.
With mayne out and crozier playing high HF it bought Duffy into the game.
He absolutely finished everything he did to an amazing standard ( loved that handball out of congestion after the shimmy ) BUT
I saw him behind his man a few times on the way out...and saw he looked cooked running around to structure up a couple of times. I'm guessing this can be due to a sub not getting as many interchanges.....
Its great he got a chance and finished so damm well, but I'm just as excited about croziers effort tonight.

I'd say with walters coming back next week, duffy will remain on our list as injury cover for both he and balla's - and a great back up he'll develop into

He benefited in some instances and on one occasion tried to kick one with the outside of his boot when suban and Pav were two on one ready for a handball to Subes. But did enough to grab a contract extension and put some heat on guys like Deboer, been hit by injury for two years will benefit from another full pre-season.

I disagree. I don't think Freo has necessarily rewarded effort from its young players this year. It sends the wrong signal. Having a player with good goal sense like Duffy (Lord knows, we don't have many of them) will allow Walters to play stints in the midfield and down back where his precise kicking is invaluable. It will also relieve some of the pressure from Ballas; after all one of our problems all year has been we don't have enough offensive forwards to call upon

its fair to say he and walters are gunning for the same spot on the team though...
the reality is ross will pick walters ( and should ) every day, night, twilight, dawn and dusk of the week.
my point remains that he is coverage stock and in no way will 30 mins of good footy with a few touches dislodge or stall walters return. I can't see us regularly playing 3 attacking smalls ..... but I might be wrong
p.s I know he is 188cm or so, but he plays small.

I have been a fan of Duffy since I saw him in pre season last year but I didn't think he would come on and develop enough to get a game. I'm glad I was wrong because he was fantastic from the little time he had. Unfortunately if Muz, Ibbo and Sonny come back in next week I can see him losing his spot although I think he should keep it based on tonight's performance.

Why not play both? It has a better chance of success than how we have structured up all year. He created opportunities tonight, it wasn't like he was just in the right place at the right time
I agree that Duffy lost his man a couple of times (he'll learn from that) but he has done more scoreboard damage than Mayne or de Boer ever manage. We won't win a GF unless we have more potency. And he is taller...

What does "x factor" even mean? Even ironic is a word you can describe. "X factor" means nothing. That snivelling turd "Stevie J" has it but so too does Naitanui – so they say.

What Duffy has is confidence, competitiveness, a body built for the footy he plays, and a good football mind. He read the play really well. When I saw his first run on, he didn't linger or jump around on the spot in the middle of the arc. He ran hard to the open space and though he didn't get the touch, he presented something. It was encouraging.

Seeing him kick his first was even better. If he had any lingering anxiety or felt out of depth, that would've numbed it.

He played a corker in the end, tried hard and got the results. I was never a fan, I wanted him delisted, and in terms of his person I was never a fan. All of those things have been turned around tonight and for the last one, in the last 6 months. People on here reckon I have my pet hatreds and sure I do, but I will always say I made a dick and always come full circle when I need to. I need to now.

Duffy has a lot of potential and enforced himself more than any Freo debutant has in years.

Sorry to intrude but this from the AFL sites 5 talking points made me chuckle.

5. Can’t get enough of that wonderful Duff
His mum was unaware he had made his debut as she was climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa as her son took the field. He had not been able to contact her to tell her the good news.

Was an impressive debut for a sub away.
