Wot Crusty said. Not taking that Adelaide offer for Petty would be close to the podium of dumb decisions.
Gus and Oliver contracts. Extending Viney. Dumb
Extending Goodwin when there were clear issues ge wasn't addressing. Dumb.
Persisting with Lamb as list manager. He's a cop FFS. Has destroyed what was a great list. Not one trade has worked out since Langdon. At least Caro has finally highlighted how bad it's been. Has thrown away several decent picks unnecessarily imo where surely we could trust JT to hit on a couple of these 2nd rounders. Dumb
Fitness/injuries. On the fence with this. But how poor has our fitness staff been since Burgess left. Sending injured players out to play. Fitness levels seemingly gotten worse every season. Players coming back too soon. Maybe it was a dumb decision to trust in Selwyn to step up with an elite list? Maybe a dumb decision to not scope out a better option while in the window. On the fence with this one, but it's been frustrating.

This thread is going to take anyone who reads it to a dark place probably, but if you want to get stuff off your chest by all means.
Here are a few of my initial ideas, some universal and some maybe controversial, who knows. Honestly don’t know where to start
1. Oliver trade should have been properly considered end of 2023 - I love him but would have been better for us to do it, and maybe both parties.
2. Viney contract. I get the environment where you need to offer talented young players high risk contracts to get them across the line against fierce competition, but what was that deal achieving exactly?
3. (Controversial?) Should have looked closely at what we might get in a Petracca trade after he announced wanting out. A pissed off player, or confused player, isn’t helping us and won’t going forward, and it’s hurting both parties. Hard to watch.
4. Not giving Glen Bartlett whatever he wanted when he first started screaming. Payout, acknowledgement whatever. We dished up in the end anyway, paid stupid legal costs for no result and had a media cloud hang about for years.
5. Cheer louder / Demon spirit etc. You get the drift.
I could list 25 more with ease but I’ll sit back and let you take your turn. For the record though, Harvest Snaps is one of our wins of late.
This comes under my Board comments above.Sacking Norm Smith.
totally agree. Worth a shot, but mayhem after mayhem.Trading for Grundy as a forward, then letting him go too cheap.
not so much...Persisting with Lamb as list manager. He's a cop FFS. Has destroyed what was a great list. Not one trade has worked out since Langdon.
I think this was all a part of the same issues, of that time. Burgess, Oli and Fritta off in defensive efforts. and the following, the jSmith saga. the Oli saga.Fitness/injuries. On the fence with this. But how poor has our fitness staff been since Burgess left.
I’d promote Jessica in a heartbeatDowngrading personnel in our media department
I’d give him a go.Didn't realise old Norm was around in the last 5 years, maybe we could reinstate him after turfing goody
I’ve never believed the two first round picks bitKane Cornhole says we were offered 2 first round picks for Petty but I've never seen it anywhere else. I'm calling bullshit. No one is that stupid.
Gus' contract was fine, he won us a flag you campaigners.
And when he got injured we were afforded salary cap relief. No harm done, play on.
Outside the box but I like it!Delisting Majak Daw
We would have saved ourselves from this if we had successfully drowned him in 2017 or whenever. The entire Christian Petracca injury saga.
- The decision to send him back on
- Continually refusing to rule him out from returning the same year
- The club, in particular Kate Roffey, not bothering to check in with him or his family in the aftermath
- The mixed and bizarre messaging about if he was or wasn't happy, had or had not been spoken to, did or did not want to seek a trade, what wider issues he had with the club and performance
- The entire Kate Roffey interview disaster that followed
I can't see why Simon Goodwin should be a premiership coach, we should bring back Norm Smith. Kids will want to see an original premiership coachI’d give him a go.
Being dead is far less of an impediment then some we are facing
Some relief, I don't think it's been fully settled yet still for the amountKane Cornhole says we were offered 2 first round picks for Petty but I've never seen it anywhere else. I'm calling bullshit. No one is that stupid.
Gus' contract was fine, he won us a flag you campaigners.
And when he retired injured we were afforded salary cap relief. No harm done, play on.
Its not even 100% about the concussion either. We actually got lucky with that in a way. It was him wanting play inside mid and then we gave him 4 years. Imagine how shit we'd look with him in there instead of Langford as well. Just need Viney and Oliver to hurt themselves bad aswellI admit the Gus thing is a but harry hindsight but that doesnt mean the warning signs weren't there and it wasn't dumb. No one else is forced into retirement after that bump from Maynard.
Like Hodgey said the other day, lot of selfishness going on of late with players wanting their stats. Its not even 100% about the concussion either. We actually got lucky with that in a way. It was him wanting play inside mid and then we gave him 4 years. Imagine how shit we'd look with him in there instead of Langford as well. Just need Viney and Oliver to hurt themselves bad aswell
I feel the Norm Smith Curse has spooked the club from not giving Goody the arse recently. He's not had anywhere near the same success but the idea of 'Melbourne sack flag-winning coach!' given the history seems a bridge too far for the current lot.I’d give him a go.
