I really hope for Dunn and the club that he will play well this week and keep injury free. The guy hasnt had any luck and will be good if we can find another player with the ability to play AFL.

I've always thought we lacked a small defender after Hayden capable of the lockdown on the nippy small forwards.

If he's successful in shutting down a small forward, and truly locking down on them, he'll find himself in the 22 more often than not.

He rated in the top 10 at draft camp over 20m, so he's definately not short on pace. Its always been endurance and injury that have been the concern.

Hopefully he finds his spot. Teams seem to target our defence with small forwards often kicking bags against us.

Hayden isn't really capable of locking them down. He really struggles on the fast types.

And that's the only role I can see Dunn playing. Small backman. Every other position, we have players that pants him in that role.

I think the match committee agree naming him in the back pocket. Though there's every chance he'll lineup as a small forward. Lineups are just smoke screens.

One things for sure. I don't think he'll be playing in the midfield.

Dunn has been playing half forward for the Sharks so it would be a surprise to see him in defence. He missed the first 4-5 weeks of WAFL recovering from a back injury. He can play so good luck to him.

If he does get a game it will be sad if he doesn't get a lot of game time. It would be nice for the coaches to back him in and say your in the team for the next month, let's see what you can do! There's a lot of pressure on the kid to have a big one! His career is on the line!

So he's been playing half forward/forward pocket with the odd run in the centre for Easts, and then when he gets a call up to the Dockers they name him in the back pocket....

This is the same thing that crucified Brock against Melb.

Am I being terribly old fashioned to suggest players get eased into the big league with limited gametime off the bench and through a flanker position?

Your just full of positive comments aren't ya Chops :(
I reckon Hayden is great. But Dunn has never shown anything to date.

Why does he deserve to be put on a flank? Mayne is going great guns there. I know who I'd rather getting game time, and if it puts Mayne out, I will be pissed off. Unless Dunn can reinvent himself, he has no future.

Back pocket has really the least most responsibility on the ground behind the forward pocket. Anyone should be able to play there stright up really.

Well that clearly explains how "Brad Hardie" and "Brownlow" somehow manage to be mentioned in the same sentence.

But as for Dunn, I just thought he could continue at AFL what he's been doing at WAFL. And before you answer "Bugger all" ;) - it just seems to me to be logical to let players do what they do best.

If the club want Dunn to play BP, then put him there in the WAFL. I don't think the regular season is the place for experimenting.

Head deserves a place in our backline before Dunn. But if Dunn has earnt a spot in the 22 before Head, then it should logically be in the forward line. Mayne gets promoted up the ground.

I think once you are 1-10 some experimenting is OK.

I can't see Dunn keeping up with Thomas or Campbell though. But he would pants them overhead.

I can, in a straight line at least. He is good on the lead. Beats people in the first 2 or 3 steps.

I doubt he'll be able to keep up with them around corners or through traffic though...

His wafl form this year has been pretty average..

This will probably be his last year at the club, if he doesn't pick it up. So i think its well worth a shot. He's a top 10 pick so i want to see what he can do at this level.
Ibbo wasn't setting the wafl alight earlier this year either, so who knows

Plus whats the worst that could happen?

Im excited to see how he goes

I suppose at the end of the day we really dont know what Dunn is capable of at the moment. Lets wait and see and heres hoping he does find what the club originally saw...

At least Macca and Thornton aren't playing...:thumbsu:
