Only part that has me doubting that he's going to stay is that a Heads of Agreement don't mean shit, it's probably full of behavioural conditions etc... for him to way up.

If he went up to Brisbane, even just to look around and have a casual chat, that would be a real slap in the face, all things considered.

Won't be surprised if the Carr show continues with a trip to Brisbane. That will be a new low, poking around the Gabba with Carr marshaling the cameras.

Any normal manager picks up the friggen phone.

No I am saying that the parameters that you are using to distinguish Cotchin from Dusty, and why Cotchin justifies a much higher rate are ill conceived, as a player such as Dane Swan possesses none of Cotchin's attributes and can still attract a higher rate of pay. Not comparing Dane to Dusty at all, just I would put Dusty's real worth at somewhere just below Cotchins. And still maintain that his worth to the team is somewhere higher than lids, based on lids performance this year. The carap about Dusty needing minders is hearsay and shouldn't even be taken seriously. I have minders too - they are called mates!

I think Dwayne Russell mentioned last night that Dusty was going to fly to Brisbane to met with them.

I've been watching the first thread on dustin martin's contract stalemate for some time with a great deal of interest and now this second thread. This is my first post :). Like everyone, I'm pretty tired of it all and just want him to sign. I think the clubs done a great job in managing him off the field and don't see why we can't continue to do it in the future. There's been a bit of talk about about him going up to brisbane now that Leppitsch is the new coach. Personally, I think they'd be biting off more than they could chew by recruiting him, given their current administrative predicament. I also agree with the argument that they wouldn't dare recruit someone like dusty, after what fevola did to their club. Fairly open ended question: what does everyone think is the main reason for the elongated negotiations? People have said that it's because of the behavioural conditions outlined in the latest contract and I tend to agree with that notion. His new contract is rumoured to be valued at around 420k a year...could their be a possibility that Ralph Carr is trying to push that up to the original contract offered?
 
The Buzz said this morning that it would be embarrassing for Dusty to go back this week with his tail between his legs asking for the contact again so we may have to wait until next week.

Re lids being tagged, why can Garry ablett lose his tags (except Daniel Jackson) and lids can't? He has a role but we are paying him mega bucks and often don't think he is trying hard enough. When he's not being tagged he is usually bog, not sure he is worth the amount he is on based on his performance this year.

Having said that, if he's going to lose some great young talent before he sets a magnet in anger, he'll want to bring some in to offset the losses. Not saying he'll dog us, but he'll try to manufacture a fair deal or dusty and 1-2 players that want out

Hmmm. Ralph Carr is to blame for that. It's already embarrassing on both his and dusty's behalf, considering dusty turned around and said he wanted to stay at RFC all along (allegedly), so it'll be even more embarrassing IMO if he goes to another club ESPECIALLY if he goes via the PSD, because then he'll be paid even less than he was getting in the first place right? He's chopped and changed alot, and I'm not saying that he's to blame for that, clearly the advice he's been receiving has been poor, but I think he's lost a lot of respect because of this whole debacle and the best result for him and his credibility would be to stay.

Okay, you think Dusty's value is just below Cotchins, and above Deledios. Quantify it.

Deledio and Cotchin provide $100-200k worth of marketing value EACH to the club. Martin does virtually none.

Deledio and Cotchin both play out four quarters, Dusty still struggles to do this.

One of Deledio or Cotchin get the main tag each week from the opposition, Dusty is rarely tagged.

Cotchin lives in the midfield, Deledio is there for the bulk of the game, Dusty needs to spend more time forward to last out the game.

Exactly where does Martin's value come from to justify the "he's just below Cotchin" claim?
