**** that.

People who write us are foolish. Granted I will admitted another premiership this year is very unlikely, Geelong has developed an infrastructure for long term success. With young guns like Selwood, Hawkins, Duncan, Bundy, West, Menzel, Motlop, Vardy and Guthrie anyone who suggest we are going to be down for long is pretty foolish.

Stevie J looks like he's about to have a cry in that photo

Darcy must be a remarkable individual, he's basically summed up what many predicted 2 years ago.
Usually takes supreme intellect to write something like that.
I for one am just in awe of his remarkable footy brain:thumbsu:

I mean it's sheer genius!

According to Tim Lane it was all over for us against the dogs in 2010, or was that 2011?

no, I think he mentioned it after we lost the 2008 GF but he did also mention it yet again 2 years later against the Western Bulldogs.
He may have said it again last year but people now know he's just taking the piss :)

All good things come to an end.

In my mind this playing group cannot and will not win another flag. That is no knock or disrespect, but pure reality for many of the greatest players ever to wear the navy and white hoops.

I am looking forward to refreshing the list relatively swiftly and having another crack in a couple of years.

Is there nothing to say we can't flick a switch and start improving though?

Wow what an original concept for a story, to be honest it's something that I could never have thought of in 20 years. But, the way this season is we can still pinch it. No team wants to the play the cats on a wet day in a final. Agree with Beth that the foundations are looking good for the next generation.

Lastly any win from here on in takes points from those above us.

Love the way you guys have gone about it. Have been great to watch. Needed eveything to go right this year and a tough draw has not helped. Some good kids coming through and Menzel and Varcoe injuries have hurt your balance a bit. Do not think you will be down and out for some time especially if a few of the new kids come good. I am not game enough to write this year off just yet though.

All true, and I agree.

What frustrates me is the number of media people who are trying to make themselves look smart by stating the bleeding obvious (and people seem to swallow it). It's like a badge of honour or something for them. You look at how many players we have over 28, how many under 22, and it's clear that while we will be competitive this year, it is unlikely we will win the flag with that mix. You shouldn't get any credit (not you, the media) for stating that, it's just obvious.

For me, I will enjoy the last couple of years of some of our greats and enjoy continuing to be competitive while transitioning, when I see the quality of some of our young players I am fairly confident about where we will be in 3-4 years time.

Dynasty is just paper talk or a TV show. Its like all the media are happy to ping us , its more news worthy but next year it will almost be can Geelong have one more in it.

Im not trying to be overly optimistic but before drawing the curtain , lets at least give them the chance they have earned. Some would say , its not over till its over. Some would say its dependent on one or two players. The Dynasty didn't die with the loss of Ablett etc. Usually an era closes with a change of coach.

When we fail to make the Prelim this era is over , it may only be a quick spell down but when they return it will be the next era.

Maybe not this exact playing group but their are still a number of players in our current lineup who could figure in our next premiership. Honestly if next year we can get everyone on the track, get a few more games and another pre-season into our young players were still gonna be a very threatening side certainly top 8. Add a gun like Boak (might happen might not) and we're right in the mix for another premiership.

i really like the way he goes about his articles.

What the media still don't understand is that the AFL is no longer run on Mick Malthouse's Premiership clock. You could argue that the introduction of the new teams has been disruptive to the normal run of things but I think it has changed permanently. I don't think we will return to the model of struggling teams getting draft picks and inevitably rising back up. Strong clubs have a huge advantage, only to get greater with free agency.

I am not arrogant enough to think that Geelong will always be in contention but it is possible to get back into contention and quickly if we drop away. We may have a tough year or two but we should take heart from what the Eagles have achieved, Sydney also and even Adelaide. All have had shallow downward periods. Sydney have avoided them all together, but I would not laud their approach just yet because I don't believe they are in serious contention for a Premiership which is where we want to be.

If Geelong keep making smart football decisions in drafting and development we can rise again. We already have a good core of young players, though we need a couple of midfielders.

Let's face it. So far this year we have been unconvincing at best for our 7 wins and 5 losses. Of those 5 losses, 2 were less than a kick both interstate and both coming from 5 goals down. Another was against the team that is now sitting a game clear on top, that if not for a dodgy 50m penalty, we could've quite easily won. So really, even playing average footy we could be 10 and 2 sitting on top of the ladder if the ball bounced our way a little more.

Still reckon that we will find form but it's a matter of when. As dumb as it sounds if we win the next 2 that we're expected to and then upset the Pies we're 10-5 and 2 wins off top spot.

By Godfrey, we can still win this thing. Come on Geelong! They need us more than they have for years. I might get along to a few games.

Well I did hear Scotty say in his press conference that "we would probably be undefeated this year sitting pretty on top of the ladder if only Skerret turned up a little more often".

Don't want to put all the blame on you. The players etc have a little to do with it too:D

This is the truly remarkable part of our season so far , to be 7:5 and not got anywhere near top form and yet have come so close a number of times - reinforces Scotts comments from last season about the groups resilience and competitiveness. To go very deep into September is obviously a mammoth task from where we sit yet we come within a bees of toppling the Swans on their dung heap after not recovering from the long walk in till after half time. Who dares to write us off just yet?

This is the Club that keeps on giving , let it be so Cats , let it be so !

He said that? I'll be there this week!

Legit am not prepared to listen to anything Luke Darcy says unless I absolutely have to. There's only so many 'x is the best x in the competition' and 'i love the way x goes about it' I can stand.

I thought we'd been stripped of premiership points when I saw that picture at the top of the AFL site. I don't think I'm ready to write us off after the surprise of last year, but we're up against it more than ever. I agree with Rosso that if we can build some confidence in the next two and surprise a few of the more fancied teams in the run home anything can happen.

SO what if the dynasty is done!? All other 17 clubs would have taken that era without hesitation. It has been an amazing ride, and the next few years is just the next chapter. Let's not forget what Brian Cook was saying at the start of the year that everything is building up to 2014, and i believe something special may be coming. We have a great core of young players coming through. By this time next year players such as Guthrie, Smedts, Motlop, Bundy, Hunt, Duncan, Cowan, Gillies, Brown, Stringer, etc. will have 25+ games under their belt. Further to that, they have some pretty impressive teachers around them.

Fair enough that there will disappointment over the next two years, but don't lose sight of what is coming.

It's been said ad nauseum, but I imagine a few clubs will start hearing footsteps if the cats go into the finals in red hot form. Will definitely play on a few minds if the scores are tied at 3/4 in a knockout final.
