Dyson vs Betts

Betts is averaging about a goal a game. For a 20 year old thats not too bad. Its not like carlton have been in stellar form during his short time at the club.

He looks alright, he'll definately be a handy player.

Carlton fans already get a huge orgasm whenever he gets near the ball, it happens when you actaully have someone half exciting for once

Thanks for that. It makes an interesting read. Do you think Dyson will keep his spot on the list?

Yes I do, but he'll have no excuses next year.

A big pre-season culminating in a bigger, stronger body and improved endurance will give him a base to launch off. He had a well publicised interruption last pre-season coupled with a conservative training regime to keep any OP flare up at bay.

We are in no position to cut any kids with his potential at the minute. if we were going brilliantly then he might be in a little trouble. I’ve seen this kid play since he was 16 and from day one I thought he'd make a good footballer, only time will tell if im a good judge of talent.

Hard to disagree with that although i do take exception to him lacking courage, stamina and committment. he had a shocker last game nothing more, all players have them. He has a big motor and puts in, he is a reciever and if the team doesnt get him theball he'll struggle. He needs to win more of his own footy and with a stronger body that area will improve.

He needs to become more selfish, become the midfields version of scotty lucas. Run 20 metres and thump the thing long. His team mates need to use him more also, if he's open get him the footy.
I'll explain further - albeit these are isolated incidents that I can remember, but they tend to set a trend of this. He ducked his head a few weeks back against WC. In that same game, I saw him jogging while his opponent sprinted and we were a man down. I rekcon he seems to disappear by the end of the game.

A few factors against him - Sheedy has not used him in his natural role, but then again, he doesn;t seem to get the footy, or get given it. Stanton is the prime example - he runs to space and they give him the ball as a result. Dyson needs to do this more. I just feel that he does not impact on a game enough - he gets a few good touches then he simple fades into the background. He needs to work harder at staying in the game and being a contributor for more of it. Perhpas it is confidence, but my patience is running out with him as far too many skillful guys just don;t do enough. Nash is the other example of that, although his last two weeks have been really promising. If he keeps that up till seasons end, I will be rapt with his development.

Also, if you look at who is vying for spots with - Cole, Pev, heff, JJ, MJ, Stants, Campo, Gus, Lovett, guys who play forward and in the middle, he has a long way to go to catch up to some of them. Just hope if he does stay on the list, he reallly puts in. Needs to show something in the next few weeks though to make sure of his spot.

I'd doubt that.

He would not be in any starting 22 apart from Carlton.

Far too harsh, and really a poor call. I don't think you've watched every game he has played, like I have. He's added a great defensive side to his game. Has the ability to kick a couple of great, crumbing goals.

He would make the West Coast side IMO. They haven't got a forward line, or a crumber.

Betts is better than some players on your list.

I think Kelvin is on his own there. Betts looks f'n great for a 19 y/o kid. He has gone from the odd bit of excitement to someone learning to play all parts of the game. I would love him with us. He has done it twice to us now.
Would make most teams 22, and everyone's 22 in a few years time.
Re Dyson, he needs to lift. Agree with someone earlier who said it wasn't lack of courage in Betts incident. He just misjudged where the ball was going. I think everyone thought it was headed to Fevola!
Would wan't to put in a huge preseason. As many others would.
Can see Lloydy and Sheeds overseeing one of the biggest preseasons in history this year. We will be back!

Paddy has some serious Pace for a man his size. When he chased one of the carlton players out of the backline (forget who) he easily cought up with him and if he had the confidence and determination he wulda nailed him with a gut crunching tackle, but confidence is the only thing standing in his way. Close to no 18 yr old Key possy players have made a huge impact in there first 2 seasons. correct me if im wrong.
Jonny Brown;) ;)

I would have Ricky Dyson at Melbourne in a heartbeat. Please trade him Sheeds.
I like him as a player and from a neutral perspective the way he plays (Receiver) he isn't going to tear it up in an average side (No offense but it's true).
Magnificent kick and has a lot of pace. How old is he?

Dyson would be a certainty to be on the list next year. But, it would probably be a make or break year.

Was watching the vision of Betts mark and goal that tied the scores and it does not look good for Dyson.

When the ball was kicked Dyson was in front of Betts but looked behind to see the other pack running towards the ball. He then pulled out of the contest and that's when Betts came storming in and took the mark.

The smallest and weakest guy on the park just taught Dyson a lesson in courage.

Such a beautiful kick.. but there are so many questions.

Anyone else see it?
I wouldn't call eddie the weakest player on the field, he is strong as. He could bring down aaron sandilands if he chased him, but he is definately the smallest in terms of height, he is also stronger than houlihan and blackwell

Well to me and other supporters ( help me out here folks don't want to be on my own again) he looks like he's having a crack every other week.

It's so frustrating because when he gets the ball and delivers it is just so clean and precise.

I mentioned in another thread the he along with Winderlich will be the barometers of whether we can be a top 4 side again.

We tend to judge the players with more skill a little more harshly.

As for Betts, well, maybe i haven't seen enough of him. For a little bloke he does bust his guts out - must give him credit on that.

I really do hope Dyson makes it with the Bombers (or anyone else should we part ways) His kicking is sublime...havent seen such clean precision passing since Harvs spearing them out chest high.
