I think it's a good idea. This "match fitness" thing is just a myth. These players are damn fit, and there is no difference between running on the training track and running on field, so if they can train they can play.
And anyway, how much match fitness does Cummings need? the guy plays at FF and rarely covers more than 30m at a time.

Its all talk, theres no way that Judge would put any eagles on the field if they werent 100%
Fair enough he might do it later in the year in big games and so forth but not for a 1st round game. Anyone underdone or carrying injuries will sit it out, Judge knows theres no point playing them for a fairly insignificant game against Geelong, and risk there niggles becoming long drawn out problems.

Underdone is fair. You cannot get to the level of matchplay during training.
However, I think the plan is to get up to speed later so as to restrict injuries. Last year they were up to speed 6 weeks before the season started and were burnt out mid season. Judge has learnt by that.
I expect that he will anticipate a loss in round 1, scrape a win against Sydney, beat the Dockers cos they are crap and be up to speed as a force by round 4. Not a bad plan.
I have a sneaking gut feeling, though, that we are going to beat Geelong. If we do then the confidence will be up and a good season will be in the offing.

I think you're right Frodo. The eagles usually win their first game of the season. If we are to win games they are likely to come in the first 12 rounds. After that we will see how much depth the eagles have.

I think the media beats up any stories possible on which players might not of trained at full pace. I'm sure Judgey won't play anyone who isn't 100% ready to give it all they have. Plus even missing Kemp and Phil Matera isn't such a problem because we have a good list to cover them (for now!)
