Re: WhatWhereWhen

You going Glenno?

Yep

I'm there every year

My fellow store managers are actually there now for the May conference (flew up Wednesday) while i stayed behind to help with the baby

We will do our usual thing, training during the first day and awards that night and then 2 days of presentations and hands on (booths)

Then it will open up, but i'm not sure of the format yet. This was the one that was meant to happen last year, but both EB and the vendors felt it wasn't enough time to do the event justice, so have held it off

WCG playing a part too. not sure how much i can say on that front though, but Equus picked up on it before with the different letters picking it up.

My guess for the format (and i know nothing at all so far) would be:

Run over the Saturday and Sunday (our show finishes on the Friday) where people can go from booth to booth and there will be some presentations at designated times, so it should be much like a mini E3

Again, this is purely a guess, i'm sure we'll find out a lot more on Tuesday night

Other thing they were talking about, is some of the best performed store managers get to hang out for the weekend and work the event with the vendors in the booths and on the floor. Hope this is the case :D

Who here thinks they may go?

Who here thinks they may go?

Well since it's only a few minutes drive I might pop in to say hello.

Make sure you wear your scribblenaught hat so I can recognise you. ;)

Re: WhatWhereWhen

Sounds interesting. Great location for it to be held and a good excuse for a short holiday.

However, i feel like i'd be spending 80% of my time standing in line.

Ok, just arrived back and here are some of the games i saw and stuff:

MW3: Got 3 matches on a LAN. 5 v 5. 1st match was a standard deathmatch, then got to play the new kill confirmed mode (which is a lot of fun) and finished with a domination match. It feels like COD, we all know what to expect and it felt great. I smashed the kill confirmed match, where i got a chopper, a strafe chopper run and then my AC 130. Once i had demolished everyone on the ground from the air, i had to run and grab the tags to confirm the deaths!

BF3: They had a mission where you're in a fighter jet and you're the gunner. was a bit meh. They also had co-op and SP set up, so i had a quick ruin of the SP and enjoyed it. I preferred COD to BF3, but thats just my preference. Will still buy though

Mass Effect 3: Got a video demo and they had it to play at the booth, but i was busy with some other EA titles to play it, as ME3 is not my thing. But the game looks great and i'm sure it will be awesome

Vita: Got to use the only Vita in the southern hemisphere. Screen is a lot bigger than i imagined and the console is very lightweight, about the same as a 3000 PSP. Played Uncharted and it looks just as good as UC2 on PS3.

UC3: Got to play the level with the cargo plane. You all know what to expect. Graphically amazing, UC at its finest

AC Revelations: Got to LAN on the MP. AC MP is just not for me. I think they have a great concept, but i love to run and gun (thats why i like COD) I cant wait for the game to finish Ezio and Alairs story though. Got to see some game footage i hadn't seen before and was impressed

Zelda Skyward Sword: Contorls are excellent with the motion plus. Link moves with you pretty much 1 to 1. Some interesting mechanics when engaged in fights which helps vary your strategies

Mario Kart and Mario World for 3DS
: Both of these games are the best looking games in 3D for the 3DS i have seen. Both games are a blast and should help boost the fledgling console. Both worthy purchases for those that have a 3DS

Saints Row 3: Plays just like GTA San Andreas. Silly over the top fun. Car handling seems a bit arcadey and it seems like you're on rails when going around corners. Gun play felt alright. Will buy for the lulz

Lollipop Chainsaw: For those who do not know what this is, this is the new game from Suda51 of No More Heroes fame. High school been taken over by zombies, so Juliette, the head cheerleader gets a chainsaw and starts smashing zombies with her boyfriends head attached to her belt. Pretty tight controls considering its not out till next year. Worth a look

Sonic Generations: Wow, its quick. Old school Sonic with HD graphics = win. My head was spinning and i loved it

Other stuff i saw and played but cant be stuffed going into detail. As per usual, if anyone has more questions on any of the games above or below, am happy to answer them the best i can:

SSX Blur
Grand Slam Tennis 2
NFS: The Run
Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One
Tekken Hybrid
Resident Evil: Raccoon City
UFC 3
WWE 12
SF Vs Tekken
Darkness 2
LOTR: War of the North
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
Goldeneye Reloaded
Kid Icarus
HOTD PS3
Max Payne (got a level from the game demoed by Rockstar on a 50 m screen)

And of course, the free stuff :)

2 years of Xbox Live
PES 12
Forza 4
Gears of War 3
Plantronics 360 Headset
NBA 2K12

And we'll get these when they're released:

Halo Anniversary, AC Revelations, Batman Arkham City, Kinect Sports 2

Good show, public shows start Saturday morning

Thoughts on Ratchet?

Had a quick 10 min blast through on a co-op level with 3 others. Some very intruiging puzzles that took some figuiring out and good team work. Gameinformer gave it an 8/10

SF V Tekken and Tekken Hybrid...Thoughts please?

Tekken Hybrid was a bit meh. Its just Tekken Tag redone in HD with a Tekken Blu-ray to go with it. I didn't overly enjoy it

SF Vs Tekken was much better. Beautiful looking game and plays just like SF4

Did Sonic Generations play more like classic sonic? the demo jump physics felt a little off and heavy, wondering if they have tweaked it since.

Did the killstreaks in MW3 feel overpowered as in MW2 rapefest all over again (after they promised more balance than MW2) and how was the hit detection?

Do the buttons feel small on the vita compared to the psp?

Interested in Goldeneye reloaded, how does it play? similar controls to CoD considering its made by Activision? also does it look like a Wii game upscaled to HD or like it was redone?

what were the maps like? many second story camping spots ruining the flow of the maps like mw2? or is it pretty free flowing and easy to get to everything like cod4?

is the strafe chopper run just like a stealth bomber type line but from a full on barrage of gunfire from multiple choppers? not only that but is it a good choice for a pretty high killstreak?....i'm assuming the chopper is pretty useless like the mw2 one for a 7 killstreak?

i personally think kill confirmed looks like an intriguing and fun new game type...do you think it will be a mode you play often once full release comes out?

did you get much chance to play around with the perks and gun setups or just had to go in with the pre-made classes? if you got to change it up, what did you use and how did everything feel (including the proficiency you chose)?

i know you had very little time with it but just interested to know some more details of what you played considering you've had plenty of time with each title and in general seem to know what you're talking about.

also you gonna grab this on ps3 as well to play with the awesome parties our guys set up? (get a 360/ps3 controller :))

edit: also maybe post this in the mw3 thread?

killstreaks will always be pretty overpowered from mw2 onwards....the fact that there is no danger close should mean that it's less ridiculous though i hope!
also i'm going to assume hit detection was perfect since it was on a lan but still will be good to hear from somebody who actually has hands on time.

also interested in goldeneye even though i most likely won't play it much at all due to it's horrible release timing!

Max Payne (got a level from the game demoed by Rockstar on a 50 m screen)
Does it look like it handles like the originals? And is the story still told with comic book like cutscenes?

If possible, I wouldn't mind your thoughts on WWE '12 seeing as they've reinvented the series.

I'm jelly of free things. :o

TBH, it felt the same as the last few :( Graphically looked identical. But we didn't get long with it, as our 20 mins on the THQ booth was spent with 4 games (SR3, UFC 3, Res Evil and WWE) and the WWE display originally had 3 TV's running it, was cut to 1 as the alpha code crashed the system

Would need to play longer for a better verdict

Sonic Generations was just like old sonic. I didn't play the demo, but his jumping physics felt fine

Hit detection was fine as we all had 4 bars sitting about 5 metres apart. Killstreaks felt normal. AC 130 was the same as MW2, but the maps were not that open so had trouble getting multi kills in it

Didn't really use the buttons on Vita, was testing the touch screen capabilities with UC.

Goldeneye controls were identical to COD. Game felt very arcadey. Our whole group didn't like it much. Was very average IMO.

They just need to sort the legal shit out and get the N64 version to PSN and XBL

The maps are a lot smaller (the ones we played at least) and not too many 2nd story sniper spots :thumbsu:

Strafe chopper is just like you mentioned. They make a few passes over the allocated area and eliminate the opposition. it would seem a decent choice for a 7th kill streak

I can see me playing Kill Confirmed for sure. Just adds that extra bit of tactics to standard deathmatch

had about 30 seconds before the game started to set up a class in each match. used the M4A1 in the st match and it worked a treat. Set up a SPAS class for the second it felt nerfed compared to MW2. I ditched it after a couple of deaths and went back to my M4 class.

I loved the game. I'm a card holding COD fan, and for me, it was by the far the most fun game i played at the show (no playable Batman and i have little interest in AC multi player) and these are my 3 most wanted for the year.

I think it has potential and i think the whole "looking for groups of similar interest" will help weed out the annoying 12 year olds, as you can make a custom group and get people to join that one (just make it some really random name) and only share it with those on forums, or those you meet in game who show skill

I may get it on PS3 early next year. i won't have time to split time between the 2 consoles running into Xmas and with Batman and AC to play too. but i'm sure we'll get osme games in somewhere. Even if i do a buy and return 1 week later trick

what did you have for breakfast?

A piece of toast with scrambled egg and bacon. A glass of apple juice on the side. Then i had some rockmelon and orange ;)

Does it look like it handles like the originals? And is the story still told with comic book like cutscenes?

It looks like it handles like RDR. The cutscenes i saw were more like RDR rather than comic books like the earlier games. Final killcam is in too, so when you take the last man of a wave down, you see it in slow mo.

Question on Street Fighter X Tekken, could you go into detail about how the gems affected the gameplay and convince me it's not shit and something that will ruin the game. Thanks.
