Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Does the ball spin properly in the air after a drop punt in this game? It never did on the PS2 games...

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Someone try and get some footage of the game in different camera angles.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Im getting jealous of all the people playing the game today. I'm going to have to go to the Swanston Street demonstration for another play!

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Will do. I took one yesterday which is in one of my posts. I may try to get picks of all the player ratings.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Can somebody ask the people at EB to put the sound on? Would love to see if commentary has improved from previous AFL games, i remember premiership edition "Riewoldt..... Putting on a clinic as he adds another goal."

According to one of the reviews the commentary is quite repetitive.

Ross,

I have been doing my best to pimp your game on various other forums I use. I was just so wrapt with it that I really want it to do well so we can continue to grow the franchise and get new games! :thumbsu:

I could see this happening very easily. Commentary is probably a very difficult thing to do in terms of recording so many lines.

Even after playing two games of NBA 2K11 the commentary was already repetitive and now half way through the season I have already heard the same comments over and over and it feels like every game has the same comments. So in that regard even a big budget game has the same problem.

To anyone that has played the game

If i was a player on the defensive 50 how far could i kick the ball to a player? Can i kick it to my attacking 50 or doesn't the camera allow you to do that?

How did the 'lock on' thingy work was it useful?

One of my gripes with NBA 2K11 is the commentary, same stuff in the leadup (in terms of how xxx team was injury plagued last season, will it be the case this season ? Even when the season is just about finished :p, likewise with that reporter Doris reporting the same stuff at the half time break).

Fifa was just as bad in lead up and close of game commentary (should have multiple setups for the lead in - as i had heard that the team i picked were down in luck and not very good etc.... yet 5 seasons later when i had been promoted in the first few seasons, then won the EPL and all cup's associated 2 years in a row.... we were still a bottom league side and down in luck), yet their in game commentary was fantastic.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

I spoke to Ross in relation to the commentary at EB Chadstone. He said he felt the commentary was the most disappointing aspect of the game. Unfortunately he added, BigAnt weren't able to do the commentary for the XBOX/PS3 versions and all commentary was supplied by WickedWitch.

Apparently BigAnt cut down what they were sent and used it in the game.

I imagine the commentary will be quite a letdown, quite quickly.

Let's all keep our focus on the prize in the end however, the most crucial part of this release is that BigAnt sell their 50,000 units required to make AFL Live 2012, and hopefully all these additional features shall be added year by year.

I was pretty poor at kicking but it seemed all players would kick the ball a different distance, I don't think many people used the 'lock on' aspect of the game as it was hard to see on the default camera angle but I believe I did it once or twice on a kick in and kicked it in line with the team mate you locked on.

Also a little review on 3 things I found interesting;

I found the bumping controls really fun, and very simple. Worked very much like deking in NHL 11 (move the right stick to bump.)

The goal kicking on the run was fairly easy yet still extremely fun. There was one point where i was running along the boundary and picked up the ball and was able to get a banana kick for a goal.

I also noticed multiple marking animations, there were numeral times where a player would be running for the mark and would either dive or slide for the ball. The chance to try and out-muscle your opponent in the contest is also a really cool idea.

But a joy for this game for me is that there is no more button mashing and just hoping that something good happens. It all seems to be based on timing.
