Carlton
"Kennedy, 21, has so far declined a contract extension from the Hawks after 13 games in two seasons. The Swans say they are keen to retain Ed Barlow, but he has attracted the interest of Carlton. Out of contract, Barlow, 22, has played 25 games in three seasons, including 14 this year. "

That Qoute is from the Australian the morning. Anyone else heard anything on this. Why would we be looking at him? What would we need to give up. Would he be a target if we fail to secure Andrejs or Spangher? Seems as though we will be heavily involved next week.

Probably a 3rd round pick for Barlow.

Can you tell as a bit more about him AUSSIE GUN?

From what I've seen he is a bit clumsy and not a great user of the ball, can take a grab though. I wouldn't have thought we are looking closely at him unless it's involved in a trade of Fev (which wont happen).

He can look great at times, good skills, fairly tall and quick for his height but he can look very ordinary as well. Biggest problem is he is fairly soft and doesn't appear to have any core strength, which, as you said, makes him look like a clumsy footballer. I don't expect him to be winning the hard ball like a maniac but he shirks the basic one-on-one contests too often or gets pushed off the ball way too easily.

He is one of those players who could be brilliant with very good players around him but becomes an average footballer in an average team. He could be handy in the forward line as a leading/running flanker.

I'd like to give him another year with us because he was talked up big time with enormous potential but I'm not sold on him yet because I hate the word potential.

He is probably worth a 3rd rounder at the moment but I think Roos is keen to keep him.

I find this the more interesting part of that little piece.

Tall (194cm), athletic type who when excelled in his debut was hailed as the next Goodes. As AG mention tends to take a step back from the one-on-one contests. I think this is a symptom of a greater problem of lack of application. He tends to zone out not just during certain periods of the game, but I believe during certain passages as well.

Played mainly as a forward with varied success, but was shifted to defence and did quite well there until the Collingwood game in R21 where he was moved forward again. He was atrocious and was subsequently dropped for R22.

Same here. Barlow is not quite tall enough, not quite strong enough, not quite fast enough and not quite skilled enough. Almost a good footballer.

JP Kennedy I like the look of. Can find his own footy, and seems to use it well enough.

* Edit - didn't realise he was 194cm, doesn't seem to play that tall.

By the sounds of it he is definately worth more to the Swans than his trade value warrants. For now I will dismiss this as nothing more than a passing rumour.

Thanks for your info Swans supporters.

Id like to reiterate the above sentiments from BB7.

Thanks a million to both of you for taking the time to explain (in some detail) an unbiased view of Barlow (who I know absolutely zero about).

Much appreciated.

I'd Pass on Barlow thanks, saw him play several times on TV for the Swans, and he is very much a hit and miss type player, and would only be a 'depth' player at best/emergency etc, and as such, I would rather we kept the pick (3rd rnder as the above Swans fan suggested) and tried out luck with a kid in the draft.

Yeah, 4th I'd take for Barlow. He's just frustrating because if he was harder, at his size he could physically impose himself on a game. Likewise he's shown he has an awesome kick and can move the ball, but seems to spend too much time panicking.

We've seen what he CAN do, but it just seems like he's never going to get there.
