Is this another case of selective memory? Do you not recall Ball saying he did not wish to play for any other team, he would not even talk to Essendon. But we somehow should have disabused him of that opinion and have him join us.

And as it is against the rules to nominate a club, what you are saying is that we should have taken Ball against his will, on a massive one year contract so that he could nominate for the draft again last year?

Really?

Wanna rethink that or is your mind set on that opinion?

well i actually dont rememer that happening. But do you think if we went to his management they wouldnt listen to us ? they would surely listen to us. we could match any offer the pies made. but instead we put all our eggs on brock before that period and we didnt even make a play for ball.

To lure a player like Brock McLean out of his club, you can't just say, look, we like you, but we'll wait and see in trade week if anything else becomes available. You have to commit. We lured Robbie Warnock to Carlton. Safe to say we probably committed to him early as well but you don't jump up and down about us putting all our eggs in that basket. At the time of the trade McLean was a good player (Hopefully he still is).

Well perhaps you were asleep during the lead up to that trade period. Perhaps this might jog your memory?

Although the rules prohibit players from refusing to be drafted by particular clubs, they can make it so difficult that there is little point. Why would a club risk paying out huge dollars for just a one year contract knowing full well that the player does not want to play for you and thus will probably not perform as you had hoped and would also re nominate for the very next draft anyway. What exactly do you hope we would gain from putting ourselves in that situation. And can you imagine how savage BF fans would be now if we had Ball for just last season and now he was gone anyway?

Time to wake up and smell the roses kid.

If we are gonna throw wish list picks out we should have traded Sause and Thornton to Hawthorn for Buddy and Roughie. They owe us one over the Beaumont trade, oh wait, no sorry thats the other way around, we still owe them. Anyway.

Hungry Ed Curnow gets his big break at the Blues

"He's a kid who's desperate, hungry and wants to make a big impression," Ratten said.

"The way he's gone about his work and how he wants to be perceived as a player ... he works extremely hard and he's trying to get the most out of himself."

At 21, Curnow already is a football journeyman. He played juniors at Modewarre, outside Geelong, and for Geelong College in the APS system.

He then played for Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup, spent a year on the Adelaide Crows' rookie list and won Box Hill's best-and-fairest in the VFL last season before arriving at Carlton.

Why is Ratts talking about resting him for a month?

PS can we change the name of this thread to "How f*cking good is Ed Curnow"

I'm with you on that one. I was excited when we picked Curnow up, but he has just blown me away with the effort and guts he has shown so far. I just hope that he can stay healthy and the in-and-under role doesn't lead to him getting injured and his body breaking down like McLean has so far. On that topic though, I'm still hoping that McLean can get his body right and get a run of games together. He is looking pretty good in the VFL from what I have heard, and when healthy he is still a quality AFL player. I'm hoping that we get to see him on the park soon, although I don't know who would make way for him out of Curnow and Robinson.

I'd love to see another quality game from Mr. Ed this week.

Not very often we get to see a rookie being in the best four weeks in a row.
Well, not since Barlow last year at least.

Wishing you all the best Ed, so break a leg. Hang on....

This post made me chuckle. I would be gutted if the bloke broke his leg again. He has been a revelation for us, and what he brings to the team is only really able to be replicated by Robinson (new to the midfield), McLean (can't count on him to be healthy every week) and Ellard (tries hard but is more depth insurance now than established AFL player). Obviously Judd can get in there and win the hard ball as well, but we really would rather keep the skipper out of those situations to try and give him a break and keep him fresh and healthy.

I like the Mr. Ed nickname too. :thumbsu:
