I must say i was most impressed with Eddie's game against essendon and thought it was a turning point. Seeing him run up the ground on a number of leads was fantastic!

But watching the game against collingwood i berely saw him run up the ground to recieve? Went a bit missing...

I just was expecting more from him after his best game ive seen him play. Can he be a consistant footballer over time?

I thought this thread was going to be about the stats in the Herald that point out that Eddie is the second best set shot in the league over the last two years.

Yeah, seen that. When I think of him tho I think more about great crumbing goals. He did kick a beauty from a set shot on the wknd tho!

Betts is doing his job, and he's not always going to be able to take marks leading up the ground. 5 goals from 4 games is a good return from him so far. If he can finish with around 30 goals for the season, he has well and truly done his job.

I agree with that and he is always or should always be able to kick goals but watching off the mark and presenting up the ground is what i would like to see, just so he doesnt stay as a FP. As he has said he would like to play more in the midfield (going to be hard with our midfield atm).

I loved him
doubted him
and love him again.
I really have learnt not to judge players too early but give them a chance
Bower and Grigg gave made me eat humble pie of late
I hope all our kids continue to improve and onward and upward

It all depends on how Ratts uses him on the day. He'll be needed to play different roles against different teams. Against Essendon, we needed him pushing up the ground more, against the Pies, we didn't

This topic comes up every month...it $hits me!!

Do you expect Betts to kick 3 goals and collect 25 touches every single game??

I do not expect that, i was talking more about the aspect of his game in getting the ball on a more consistant basis if he does this the goals will come.

If you look at davis he kicks those 'freak' goals when they need them it would be great if he could break games open like that.

Yes i do expect Betts to get 3 goals and 25pos a game. If he does not do that which he is not then i question to if we should keep him or not.

Tell him he's dreaming.

Come on, he was a honest contributer V the pies, yes there were times where i wondered what his role was but he wasnt too bad, had a good honest game and let no one down.

I wouldn't complain if he had a few short stints in the center square...

Yes he was as usual. I would like to see him go to the next level the team is developing and he appears to be ready. I suppose a lot of people forget he is only 21 i think thats cuz he seems to be the same player he was when he started.

As long as he puts in every single week? Thats not so much to ask for now is it. Were is he at i guess its really up2 him.

Eddie Betts didn't do too much different against Collingwood than he did Essendon. He was always running and leading, and despite only managing 10 touches, he put his body on the line, took some good grabs and kicked that ripper from the boundary line:thumbsu:.

Let's remember folkes, we're damn lucky to have a forward pocket who has the potential to get 27 touches like against Essendon, while not having to have a guy fill in his spot in the forward pocket! So much for no endurance...

That's because Bettsy was doing his job from the get go, scoring 1 or 2 goals per game.

i really like seeing eddie played loose so he can run into the half forward line etc. his speed is great and he causes turnovers - as seen in essendon. could potentially be one of the most damaging small forwards in the competition if he keeps up with his consistency.

This is exactly what i thought. I think he was so good as he ran hard and was just too fast. He could do this every week i feel. But why did he not against collingwood? Did we not need it? Not in the game plan?

The forward line's job was to draw defenders away from the Fevola/Obrien matchup.
