This story has the didak shaw fiasco written all over it . We aint heard half of it.

I don’t think it will be as sinister as that but there is definitely more to the story.

My best guess is Daniel Wells threw Sidebottom out of his house. Wells has young children. If an drunken idiot turns up in the middle of the night at your front door, would you seriously want him to stay in your house with your children? Even if you knew the bloke.

Even if Wells did let him in and let him sleep on his couch. If Sidebottom then starts acting disruptive in front of a young family due to his drunken state, no doubt you would throw him out of your house and call the cops.

Police don’t randomly patrol a neighbourhood at the early hours in the morning. They picked up Sidebottom because someone called them in to get him.
