They even toss the coin at Docklands stadium.... it is tradition... and teams sometimes prefer to kick towards their cheer squad in the first quarter.

Unlike some other gaffes of high profile identities, I don't think there is much here to get upset about - it's unlikely Eddie would have known the specifics of the person throwing the coin....HOWEVER....it does demonstrate that making a light-hearted remark about anything can end poorly.

It might be a bit rough, but that's how it is - you leave yourself exposed to criticism in doing so. I know I always question whether the "laugh value" of a quick quip in a social setting is worth the trouble.

1. When AFL media printed this story they predictably dragged out all of his previous faux pas, and credited the story to 'staff writer'. Whoever wrote it doesn't have the balls to put their name to it.

2. Three faux pas in 30 years for somebody who basically talks for a living is a bloody good effort. If I did as much public speaking as him, I'd probably put my foot in my mouth 3 times day.

5. The lady coin tosser was indeed encumbered because she was using a cane to stand, apparently. Not sure why you'd get somebody to toss the coin when you know they're gonna struggle with it.
