Im starting to wonder whether Jake Edwards is going to make it in the big league. From what ive heard he has struggled a bit the last few weeks in the ants. He's in his third year as a player and i feel its really time for him to stand up and push for a senior spot. Were screaming for another hit up forward, and im sure Ratts is looking for any excuse to play him, but with his dismal form just cant justify giving him a spot.

Similar story for Benjamin... haven't heard many good things about him, but don't know enough to comment. And as sad as it sounds I think you can add Hartlett to the list of players who's career was cut short from injury.

He's very frustrating is Jakey. For mine he has plenty of tools in his repetoir, and he worked super hard over the pre-season to quash the notion that last year he 'didn't want it...'. But, whilst he took a few grabs in his limited opportunities in the seniors this year he really didn't exert too much influence on the games. And then he got dropped. And since then in the Ants he hasn't done alot, besides 4 goals in junk time against Coburg.

I mean, we need another option up forward, especially if Harts keeps breaking down, but I guess its up to Jake whether he wants to take it. For some reason I think he is good enough though.

HBF and a few others seem to think Benji's disposal has improved immensely and say he'll debut later this year. I need to see more of him to make a fair judgement.

I'm also struggling to see where Jake is going to fit into our team over the next year or two. He is very much in the Brad Fisher mould, but he's coming from a long long way behind. Would like to see him really take a VFL game or 2 by the scruff of the neck, and show us what he can do.

He was bottom aged when the club drafted him, so I think we should persist with him for another year at least. Too much talent there not to try and develop it to his full potential.

Yep.....and we will be lucky if half these mid - late round draft picks make the grade

Still think we are better placed than some other teams in the rebuilding phase. We have our guns nailed down - just have to make sure we keep them. Now we have to cherry pick a couple of KPPs and ooh baby!

one solid CHF for me. Actually just hartlett with decent hammys. Otherwise we have the tools coming through. fish and fev can kick the goals but a decent CHF and we have crumbs for eddie and mids to score from.

frickin paper hamstrings

We also need 2+ mid / small fwds......we need some pace off HB....and we will find some from the youngsters on our list and some in the next 2 yrs drafting.....exciting times ahead

"IF"?

I don't think Edwards is up to it. His kicking let him down in the seniors, and just didn't find enough footy.

The next first round recruit will be a KPP forward or backman (releasing Waite forward) and will almost spell the end for Harts and Jake IMO.

Bluebear i dont even think that Waitey can cut it as a CHF. I agree with the notion that he is far more damaging in the forward line but he would need to be the hit up high CHF rather than the CHF who playes between 35-70m out. Personally im happy to have Waitey play at CHB and try to get a geniune CHF in the draft. Unfortunately we let go of one last year, but there will be another option in this years draft.

Also FWIS under the NSW Scholarship system it looks like were recruiting genuine KKP. Hopefully in the next 2-3 years there is one out of the box for us.

True. I'd like to leave Waite at CHB as well, and I wasn't thinking so much as a CHF, more a second deep forward......FP type as he has done in the past.

Fisher, despite not being the classical CHF, is more in the Robert Murphy mould and does that lead up HF role quite well. His passing is good, good contested mark etc.

So I don't think we necessarily need to get a classic CHF type.....but we do need another leading goal kicking CONTESTED MARKING forward to develop as firstly a foil for Fev, but also as a replacement. Fev has been pretty good with injuries. That won't last forever and we have been very lucky to date. We need to plan NOW. :thumbsu:

Either way Edwards and Hartlett need to put some runs on the board soon.

couldn't agree more mate. Doesnt it feel like a Brisbane senario where there was a gun at FF in our case the Fevolution and a young lumbering gun at CHF in Brown. someone please give me a crystal ball and show me who that will be... Even the duke of Earl would do right now...

This may sound silly but stranger suggestions have been made.

Put him in the backline.

I have not seen much of him play apart from in the seniors but if he is highly talented player as many suggest and he is not functioning in the forward line, try him somewhere else.

Give him a fresh lease on the game.
He couldn't be a winger or onballer could he? Backline...?

He looks like he could get quite agressive, tough player and may have some C%*T in him :)

One trick wonder?

Geez is the guy mental or something? Looks like he really finds it hard to get himself off the ground when dropped. He was supposedly close to debut in 2006, but didnt quite make it, and then dropped off.

Plays 2 games, good in one of them, doesnt get picked. Dropped off.

mental strength is a big thing in the AFL. If he cant pick himself off the ground he'll drop off a list before too long.

As much as we want to see this bloke succeed, there is no room at Carlton for those who can't do what they're intended to do at our club. I think this is Edwards last signs. For him to be re-signed, I think he needs to at LEAST show some very, very good signs for the future.

he really needs to start ripping games apart in the vfl like harlett did.. baring injury edwards will be a good player but i expect him to step up right now starting against north ballarat

Put him in the backline!
I think he has some agression in hm and is quite skillfull... forward line is clearly not working who says he should be stuck there?

I'd personally like to see him playing along side Fev and Fisher in a 3 pronged forward line like they did earlier in the year.

They didn't know each others games. They clashed. Give them time to adapt and learn how to work together.

Jake is still young and should be persisted with.

Careful what you wish for............;)

:D

Very happy to see we finally have another target up forward.

I really dislike the idea of playing with just two forwards. I like to see us play with 3.

Fisher has been out of form also, so i really think it had to happen.

Lets hope the boys can work together, find some form and cause some headaches for the freo defence this week
