Calum:
Adelaide’s Tyson Edwards has today announced his retirement, effective immediately.

Edwards, 33, has played 320 AFL games for Adelaide in 16 seasons with the Club. He played in the 1997 and 1998 premierships, finished Club Champion runner-up three times (2002, 2003, 2006) and finished third in 2004.

He was drafted from West Adelaide in the 1995 pre-season draft and made his Crows debut in round 11 of the same year.

Crows chief executive officer Steven Trigg said: “Tyson has been one of the all-time greats of the AFL. He will be remembered for an extraordinary impact on our Club, as a player of incredible consistency, durability and talent. We’ve been very privileged to have had Tyson at the Adelaide Football Club.

“He has been exemplary in everything he’s done, and as a 300-game player, and with two premierships - he’s not only one of the competition’s all-time best players; but a much loved person to many people in our Club. We wish him, Mandy and the boys all the very best for the future.”

Re: Tyson Edwards Retires

Was he dropped? Then decided to quit? If so disappointing attitude, however correct decision all the same. Effective immediately tells me he wasn't happy with being dropped, if so that is not a great way to go out!

Congratulations on a fantastic career. One of the all time greats of the AFC and will be remembered fondly amongst most supporters.

Sad to go out that way.

Surely if he has been dropped, and subsequently retired, there could have been a 'fake injury' to prevent a Westies run around and then give a massive final game send off in our next home game.

Ridiculous that he isn't given a final game post retirement announcement, especially given our season is over.

Surely:mad:

An absolute champion of the game MUST be given an appropriate on-field send off.

This could be managed better surely???

Re: Tyson Edwards Retires

Really wouldn't surprise me if the club said to Tys a few weeks back that he'll be dropped back to the SANFL, Edwards said, give me a few weeks, if I can't find form, I'll retire.

....

Terrific servant of the club and a ledgend.

Shit, that is sudden! I thought he may of atleast had one final game in front of the home fans.:( This has been an extremely sad week, and end of an ara for our club. Apparantley has retired immediatley because he was dropped for this weeks game. Shit.

Re: Tyson Edwards Retires

Tap on the shoulder, or maybe he just saw the writing on the wall in terms of his own form and the reactions from inside the club. Perhaps also lost his drive once he realised that September was no longer on the cards.

To be honest, I'm not surprised. I think posters on this board are a bit hyper-reactive in their statements about the Crows being a very conservative club. A lot of the observations that are made on this board are being made in the club themselves. And when they aren't acted upon immediately, we assume the club hasn't seen the same thing. The difference is they have to apply these changes in actuality and the weight of such decisions leads them to (rightfull imo) be cautious.

Wow I am in shock!!

I agree TLF8. He deserves one last game so the fans can say goodbye.

But gee, I didn't see this coming at all.

Would like to hear what Tyson has to say before speculating about him being dropped or whatever,

This is certainly a massive shock though. I mean he was clearly struggling this year, but to go out like this is very strange.

Congratulations on a sensational career. A fantastic team man. One of the very best to play for our footy club. He'll be missed.

Disgrace if he does not get a farewell game. Our season is shot anyway and he is hardly the worst player on the field.

He is one of our greatest ever players. :thumbsu:

That would be my guess.

The boys on 5AA say that surely the club would have given him a home farewell game to say goodbye if that was the case.

Very confusing in that respect.

Correct decision though for him to retire. Sadly he's gone 1 season too long.

One of the greats of the club though and like all Crow fans, I thank him for the memories over a very long period!! :thumbsu:
