Yep, that will do it for me.

After exploring after getting to the Fire Giant, explored around Nokron and spent around 5ish hours on the Valliant Gargoyle. Such a poorly designed encounter. Artificial difficulty along with bad coding and bugs was enough to do be in the end. Don't think I could handle a similar encounter as I think I would do thousands of dollars worth of damage around the house lol.

Shame it's not a super polished game with a better RPG element, but appreciate that they made a more accessible to scrubs like me me. Still got my value for money in the though.

I hit a wall at the same stage.

I got motivation again after finding out about rune glitch at Mohgwyn palace, It got me to level up fairly fast and made it enjoyable again.

I don't want to read up at all, have avoided it as much as possible, but might have to.

I rage uninstalled yesterday morning, re-installed it last night before heading to bed and then beat the boss encounter I was having trouble with after half a dozen goes... :grinv1:

The only way I beat the Valiant Gargoyles was by levelling up my Mimic Tear, I also completed a side quest which allowed me to summon an NPC. Without them I was no chance.

Such a BS boss but I guess that's what the devs were going for.

I'm assuming the NPC might have to do with the guy at the entrance before the boss?

I must say the encounter did force me to finally use wonderous physick AND ashes of war.... which I only figured out about both at level 75 :$

Anyone else think this game would be GOAT material if it had Witcher 3 level quality writing and side quests?

For some. A lot of dedicated Fromsoft fans prefer to not be spoon-fed story but they could have done a bit better in this regard.

It was never going to be Witcher style story and I doubt FS will ever go that route.

But to me that's a good thing. I don't want every open world game to be the same. FS has a knack of creating a truly dark and hopeless atmosphere which appeals to me. I think you lose that if you had voice actors etc etc

I've beaten Malenia but f*** Elden Beast.

I hated Elden Beast pissed me off so much that i had a break for week and then did some leveling up by rune farming and finally beat it

Don't know if it still works but you can cheese his first form by making him stand there like a statue and then beat him with arrows

It's the holy sword slash things it repeatedly fires just obliterate me.

Man I love this game. Just beat the Fire Giant and now tidying up a few loose ends before moving on. Dark Souls + Breath of the Wild was just made for me.

My only major complaint is the typical DS quest system... Never know what's going to trigger an NPC, what's going to kill them or block questlines. It's stressing me out to the point I was going to ridiculous lengths not to miss anything (and got very lucky a few times too) but I'm starting to ease off on that now.

The difficulty and balancing is really good too, nothing seems 'unfair', but god you feel good when you smack a boss that was giving you a bit of trouble. Spirit Ashes are a great way to add an easy mode without adding an easy mode; they really can make most fights a breeze, but I have no shame in using them in the 2-on-1 fights like those Gargoyles mentioned earlier.

There's an incantation he's particularly weak to - Pest Threads.

Make use of any and all talismans and incantations that negate holy damage.

The ability on Malenia's sword will tear through him pretty well too.

Lastly, if you've been using Mimic Tear try upgrading and using the Black Knife Tiche instead.

The quests - if you can even call them that, are utter shite. Pure dumb luck unless you follow a walkthrough. Really hurts this game and stops it from being a 10/10 experience.

I suppose the idea is not to stress about missing things. It's my own fault for wanting to do and see everything in one play through which I guess is not the intention. It certainly rewards exploration, talking to everyone, and encourages trying new things in NG+.

Don't think iv'e could of beaten God Skin Duo with out the blood kitana

Fire Giant
God Skin Duo
Commander Niall

They can all gagf most unfair bosses Iv'e ever played

I had no issues with Niall, but I was probably over levelled at that point.

Fire Giant was an absolute prick though, yeah.

Sleep pots make the duo very easy. Just kill one while the other one naps.

Founding rain of stars, my dude, coupled with night comet (because it's a night spell, they don't dodge it). All they do is follow you around. Niall is the same.

Fire Giant is an exercise of distraction coupled with sustained damage. Beat the first phase with Carian Slicer, got him distracted then hit him with Comet Azur with the flask set for infinite FP, whilst standing on a Terra Magica seal (on the back of Torrent, in case he goes nuts and I need to get away quickly).

Haven't done Melania yet, so we'll see. The fights people have been complaining about just required a bit of tactical adjustment, and I don't see why you should approach all fights exactly the same way anyway.

I made the mistake of taking a 2-3 week break from this game, tried to get back into it, died a few times and gave up. I was progressing so well too. Only a few bosses left.

Just started this, so excuse me if this is complete noob stuff..

Umm... am I supposed to be getting destroyed by literally any enemy (except single soldiers and wolves) at the start!? :tearsofjoy:

Or am I just supposed to run past everything and come back later when more leveled up?

Yes and sorta yes (but not too far because other areas are harder anyway).

Stealth killing soldiers is your friend early on.

Souls games like to plonk high level enemies amongst the riff-raff for you to come back later to defeat. The horse mounted enemy (Tree Sentinel) you first encounter after the tutorial is one example.

Two tips:
  • Biggest damage increase will come from upgrading your weapons NOT your stats (damage stats only matter endgame when scaling kicks in). Note: the game is miserly about handing you upgrade materials so be careful about spending them!
  • When levelling stats prioritize Vigor (HP) until its 40-60. You can poke around for specific builds and their stat spreads if you want but Vigor will always be helpful up until its 60.

Also, Bloodhound's Fang and Uchigatana are great weapons you can get very early in the game.
