Both have a few flaws, both great games. One thing that I really enjoy is variation in location specifically art direction choices. I think it was exceptional in Elden Ring. I was in awe at nearly every new area in Elden Ring, less so I GOW, which I thought was quite generic and step down in creativity from the first game. The other element is choice, Elden Ring gave you the world at your disposal. GOW played like it was on train tracks.

Currently getting review bombed on metacritic for the crime of... beating GoW at the game awards.

Will always laugh at the people who suggest user ratings carry more weight than critic ratings.
And in the lead up last week GoW was getting review bombed just coz it was up against Elden Ring lol

People are weird :drunk:

Elden Ring is a fantastic game I have beaten it these same people that complain that GOD of War did nothing new

Fromsoft release the same type game over and over again what's so new about it apart from the setting?

What's wrong with narrative driven games? I would have loved Elden Ring even if it was narrative driven like GOD of war or Horzion only time we got a cut scene is when you faced a boss

Games don't need to innovate for the sake of innovating.

From games are all very similar with regards to core gameplay loop, but the fun factor and discovery is always through the roof with each title.

Ragnarok is in every way a sequel, a logical progression from the first game. I would say that's the reason for the (unwarranted) criticism compared to ER.

At the end of the day both are fantastic games

Too many rehashed assets with a different skin in Elden Ring.

Haven't played God of War but the Elden Ring praise is over the top.

There are a few bosses that are copies but this seems like some reaaally reductive criticism. The amount of unique content in ER is huge.

There were definitely too many catacombs and the minor bosses got reused too much, if each catacombs were more unique with funky level designs like War Dead catacombs or Leyndell catacombs then I'd love it.

But the game was so huge and the unique bosses were so cool, I didn't mind them in the end, it's something they can fix with DLC or in Elden Ring 2 or something

Pretty happy this won GOTY. As a non-FromSoft fan, I couldn't get into any of their games, Elden Ring roped me in. Got me through a time when I had a knee reconstruction and was off my feet for 3-4 weeks. I sunk about 80 hours into it, hit fatigue and never went back to it to finish it but I think it thoroughly deserved the prize.

Bring on Elden Ring 2 - with hopefully better sidequests, a better storyline and a quest log.

Can you tell me all about this unique content in ER aside from the double jumping horse and Radahn boss fight.

So you've got nothing. Gotcha.
Only a couple of repeat fights? Gotcha.
You know, there's this thing, where you go to Google, and you enter in a phrase, and it regurgitates the results the Internet has in reference to that phrase.

Like, it took me all of three seconds to google 'Elden Ring Wiki', and look what I found!

I know, I was amazed too! Truly, the wonders of the Internet are marvelous in 2022!

To play through it again on a new platform ?

I do this alot be it Dark Souls, GTA, Arkham Series.

I used to buy Fifa/NBA 2K etc on everything (PC, 360, ps3) purely so I could play friends who have it on one platform and not another.

Understandable for multiplayer games with different friends.

Bit strange for single player games though, when they aren't actually any different. Almost seems a bit...Xtreme.

I justify it (to myself) playing it on a different platform is a different experience (even if it's just the different controller lol).

Also just started it on Steam with a session of paly. I did Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 in past years so look forward to open world equivalent. I would have done Dark Souls remastered too but thats never on steam sale for some reason.

Already died enough times but back myself now that I know where I'm going.
