Its been a long time since I've played a game for 3 hours straight.
Everywhere you explore seems to have things to see and rewards to be found. No markers required. Very early days but this feels like it should be the benchmark for open world games.

Went in blind, no preview videos or anything. Played a few hours; it feels like open world Dark Souls, which is great obviously and I'm looking forward to exploring but it almost feels like a reskin, (not the world), similar mechanics and it's obviously using the same engine (gameplay tied to framerate). A little disappointed with that

So far, thought I was facing up against a
spider inspired
boss, end up elsewhere (dreamsequence?)

Fell off a cliff and died.
Wandered around a bit, fell off another edge... survived the drop and looks like I've only stumbled on the opening tutorial of the game (aka faced the basic enemies with the attack controls popping up on screen).

am having a really weird issue tied to mouse DPI. at usual (desktop) settings am suffering from what i can only describe as frame pacing (it's not, but it's how it presents/feels. kinda stuttery whenever the mouse moves the viewpoint). when moving around only with keyboard or controller everything is totally fine. have mitigated it somewhat by trashing my DPI settings, but this makes the mouse in menus as slow as my grandma. the dark souls games were always a little annoying when it came to mouse usage while strafing (the camera constantly wanting to move in the direction of WASD which made it a constant fight with the mouse) but my experience in ER is much worse. haven't seen any other complaints about this. any ideas? dwwaino?

if it matters: 4k 3080 5800x logitech G502 wireless (but i really don't think it's related to specific hardware).

It does seem weird that reviews are so high but it has performance issues and a dated engine. Getting mini cyberpunk vibes but probably because I’m jealous.

There are some issues on PC. I'm playing with 5600X, 16GB and an RTX 2060. Even with conservative graphics options there are occasional stutters and fps drops, and it's not my VRAM which never goes above 5GB. They're not game-breaking but they are noticeable to the regular PC player. It does chew RAM too, maxed out at 90% of my 16GB. I hear PS5 and XBX are faring much better

Quite possibly on their end. They've probably speed up the mouse look in their player controller script. Out of curiosity are the menus the same frame rate as the game? Because if they've completely noobed it up there is something called "delta time" (varies from engine to engine) that does calculations based on a fixed time rather than every frame.

My experience with From games on PC is that mouse and KB controls are always super funky but they're best experienced with a controller though IMO so I've never really worried about it.

I’ve got it on ps5 and it’s pretty unstable.

Amazing game. It’s ridiculously difficult though. You die in most duels.

The game does a bad job of explaining/teaching you the game mechanics. fans of the genre will be fine but a person like my self who’s new has to sit there and figure stuff out because the tutorials are vague.

Would have been nice if the start of the game had a tutorial section where you get taught in real time as opposed to reading a text box.

Apart from that I’m really digging the game haven’t fought any of the big main bosses yet which I’m terrified of 😂

The tutorial in this game is waaaay more hand holdy and traditional than is typical of From 😅

First "tutorial boss" (the non-scripted one) that I actually derped my way through because I didn't realise the tutorial hints about the buttons were for two handing/sword and shield, not dial wielding swords 😆. Only spent a couple hours this morning before having to go out but it's much easier to stagger enemies by button mashing than previous games but quickly learnt which enemies I'm suppose to be running away from for now lol.

The frame drops on PS5 are disappointing but from my limited experience it's mostly when exploring. Really nice HDR implementation too.
