We didn't get off to a good start yesterday at all. Sri Lanka smacked us all around the park, scoring 3/314. We will have to play really well to get out of this one.

And Sri Lanka have another chucker, possibly even worse than their famed off break 'bowler'.
Perera should take up the javelin.

England have performed superbly in the second innings, very hard to see a result now. I still think that Sri Lanka will win the series, but yesterday's batting by England will instill confidence for the rest of the series.

red+black,
I wouldn't be writing England off just yet, especially at home. They just need to become more consistant with their batting, and bowl much better than they did in the first test.

quite obvious that the game was over before it started. two teams in a completely different class, with or without murali.

If you put lines down the pitch to show the off and leg stumps how long do you think it would be before, in the normal course of play, they would be erased and unusable?
I'd give it about 40 minutes, and that is a conservative guess.

Umpires might see a lot of cricket but they obviously don't realise how difficult it is for a right arm over the wicket bowler to get an LBW (unless you're Ooh Aah).
forget replays, i think i'm a pretty good judge of scenarios as i have described (without slo-mo etc). if umpires erred on the side of the batsmen, as they are supposed to, then i'd rather hear the occasional complaint that a batsmen was given not out when he was plum.Originally posted by Booze Hound

Speaking as an umpire I can assure you that certain things which may appear obvious after five magnified freeze frame action replays on TV may not be in the blink of an eye and the heat of the moment (how many cliches can one man use?) during a match.
