You quite obviously have no idea about the game.

Champions League, UEFA Cup, Intertoto Cup (which we hold :D ) just using England as an example??

Would that be why its called the European Champions League??

They can all be won by any team in EUROPE.

In England there are only 3 trophys, no different to domestic cricket.

I think what he's getting at there was that an England team CAN win all of those.

Domestic Cricket teams, well Australian ones at least, don't have International competitions like Football teams do. Not a bad Idea though.

South Australia vs Durham E ???

Their A team would if they had their internationals playing.

Although they also have Mick Lewis (well had).

Would be a pretty even contest.

Lehmann, Gillespie, Tait and Fatty Boomba would do enough I think.

I'd like to tell you all that I do care about winning the World Cup but the honest truth is I don't. If you asked England fans if they'd rather win the World Cup or the Ashes you'd find 99 out of 100 would say the Ashes. The ECB & players of course do care but I'd say the World Cup is not the top of our priority list.

If you asked 100 aussie fans what they would rather win, 99 would say the ashes.

The fact that its so easy to write the WC off as just a meaningless tournament is testament to the fickle nature of sports supporters. As soon as someones favourite starts to spiral down into a quagmire of poor performance, the only thing that means anything is anything they have won/done well in recently.

Much the same if Australia gets beatan in this Tri-Series, then the WC and subsequent visits from touring sides, I would put money on people going "who cares we have the ashes".

Its so easy to dismiss things you know in your heart you dont stand a chance in winning - England stand no chance of winning the WC. So to dismiss it, you also must take pot shots at its importance.

Whatever makes you sleep well at night.:)

If winning Tests is so important, why did England just lose the Ashes 5-0?

For the supposed #2 Test team, England if anything, are second rate.

They win one series against Australia, very narrowly, and all of a sudden they're supposed to be good at cricket

What is the World Cup? Is that another of these 50 meaningless one day trophies floating around that the Aussies reckon are the greatest because they hold it?
No, it is the pre-eminent and easily most prestigious international one day trophy.

Maybe if your beloved England was good enough to win it once in a while you would hold a different view.

They had a purple patch in 04-05 but will spiral back into complete modesty in the next few years. It just wouldn't be British sport otherwise.

Completely crap, modest or a short lived purple patch - an England sports team. That is how it has always been and always will be.
