THE BIG SOUND WEST OF THE TOWN!
Im going to have my vent for the year and then its to be done and dusted!

The comment Roo's made about The Ressie's not putting enough pressure on the Senior's is an absolute joke!

Roo's said after the loss to Melbourne that he was going to give his "seniors" a chance to regain some form...yes it was a little though because it was against one of the best teams in the competition and yes they did well even though it was a 53 point loss!

But for someone like me who has seen the ressie's along with Grim, Liz and others will know first hand how hard the reserves have been pushing to put pressure on the seniors! Look at the best's for Christ Sakes I'm pretty sure you will see the same names pop up week in week out!

I was pretty sure at the start of the year that this was to be a development year for some players and the team! Sure it was super exciting to have a 5 game winning streak and to sit top of the ladder for two week in a row but i think it almost shadowed the rest of the year...we almost got a little cocky thinking we actually had a chance to go far into september (when and if it happens ill believe it)

But im sick off Roo's naming kids on the extended bench and then not playing them, Im pretty sure Roo's comments would be along the lines of "Well done Sam you have showed us what you can do but we want you to go back and do it again and then maybe you can play" Geeze louise just give the kid a go naming them and then dropping them has got to be such a buzz kill before you know it the kid is injured and his year is over!

I don't even know why I'm bothering to write this considering there is what 4 games and a "chance" of making the finals cause its not like the coaches give a crap about what i have to say!

You know what if Pat or Lewis did choose to move onto another club then i wish them all the best of luck because these kids have so much potential it deserves to be shown!

The same goes for Currie I'm sick of people saying that we should trade him off! WHAT THE HELL we havn't even seen him play! NAB cup was so long ago he's worked hard since then! Just play him like they have done with Pyke (i do not give a crap how Pyke has come along in leaps and bounds) You have to play him to see what he's got to offer if he turns out to be a dud then move him on! Just because we have 3 ruckmen ahead of him doesn't mean he can't play! You know he can kick a bag if he goes forward and actually could be more decent than Jesse at times & FYI COACHES JESSE IS NOT A RUCKMAN!

The Reserves sit i think 24 points clear of the 2nd placed team Ainslie with only 2 losses and a Draw! The Ressies arn't winning these game by 10-15 points they are smashing teams by 40+ points so i guess they must be working hard! People say the Canberra comp is soft and that the Ressies should be playing in the VFL or in a Northern Comp or something and sometimes i agree, but travelling too and from canberra can be tough and some of players in the canberra comp are ex afl players and footy isn't an easy sport these kids come off spent, injured and sore!

I think that if a senior player drops off in form over a few weeks they should be dropped and have a spell in the ressies and im not talking about the Brett Meredith's and the Lewis Jetta's cause lets face the truth the "senior players" arn't going to be around forever!

Any way say what you want about Final's is what is nee and that these kid's arn't ready and such! But really I'm fed up with the Swans!

If Currie, Vesz, Reid, Johnston, Dennis-Lane etc don't get a game among themselves ill go support the Suns coz least their club is about the development of their kids for the future!

I hear the opposition teams say "Sydney have no kids"
This time I'm going to agree!

Sydney Swans...kids...future...no never!

also I'm not saying this because im dying to see these kids play and because i have a special bond with the Ressie's

its just before we know we will have undeveloped kids taking to the field and it will hurt how they play! I mean look how long its taken Richmond and Melbourne to get going and their kids are all still learning! Im not saying we will bottom out coz thats not the blood spirit but these kids will have no idea what has hit them and they deserve a chance to get a start!

Couldn't agree more. I think that the senior players are definently dropping the ball because Roos is making the comments he is and they can get away with those kinds of mistakes. I agree Canberra isn't exactly the VFL/SANFL when it comes to ressie leagues but there are a number of our players who continuously show in the ressies why they were high draft picks.

LJ, as afar as I can tell has been super consistent in the 2's and yet despite our forward struggles still can't get a game. Maybe his foot is still nagging him and the coaching staff don't want to rush it, but you'd think after his performances over the last few weeks they'd at least give him a start to see how he goes against real competition.

Sammy. Yeah I know the coaching staff are high on him and he's coming along at a faster pace but why not play him? He'd offer more than the regular Sydney backline whipping boys (Mattner/Shaw/Bevan) and has been a consistent best for the ressies throughout the season if reports are anything to go by. Even the guys at Footy Weekly say he looks 'very close to AFL ready'

Vesz. Where do we begin? Could add pace and provide a contest and yet somehow we're not using him. I agree he probably has a character issue which is holding him back, but at least give the kid more than one obligatory game a year to say "We still know you're there, don't go to another club"

Matty O. It took 57 touches (iirc) for him to get a game. 'nuff said

TDL had match experience and was very patchy imho, but he probably could do with more experience.

Sumner and McNeill are being held back because they have a fair bit to work on between them (Sumner is too small and McNeill is a rookie, but that will change by next season I think).

Meanwhile lets drop the following players, because IMHO they are USELESS (or have been the last few weeks)

Jared Moore. Straight away, drop him. I don't see why we hang onto him over the players listed above. He has no pace, doesn't crumb, and is way too short to provide much of a contest in the air. Also doesn't get anywhere near the amount of ball he should. Also not very accountable (see the Melbourne game)

Ed Barlow. Do I need to give a reason?

McVeigh and O'Keefe are both heavily injured, so drop them back down and run with a quicker, younger midfield. Something like:

C : Jetta - Kennedy - Rohan
Followers: Mumford - Jack - Hanneberry

Soph posted that maybe it was a good idea that Roosy was leaving at the end of the season. Can't say I disagree. He seems to be playing favorites with a lot of players who obviously have form issues over kids who he needs to be developing

And yet another poster says that McHack is heavily injured, so can someone tell me what is is injury ! In fact i might call the club.

Soph, how could you criticise Roosy after he saved the club from such no talents as Nick Davis, Adam Schneider , Sean Dempster and Barry Hall!:D

Seriously, he seems to be doing exactly what Eade did in his last year, showing no faith in the young talent. It was like a breath of fresh air when he came in and started playing them.I get the feeling that he underestimates the talent of the kids in the Canberra comp.

Hawthorn was playing Ryan Schoenmakers in the senior side early in his first year after being drafted. He was a lower draft pick to LJ and of similar ability to him in the SA side. It tends to suggest that our recruits actually go backwards when they arrive at our club. Schoenmakers is at a stronger club and it certainly hasn't hurt them that he has been getting a game.

IMHO Currie should be played this week, especially if Pyke has a suspect ankle. LJ and TDL could also make a positive contribution, along with Vesz. All these guys actually know ho to kick goals.

The senior side has several players that are currently "dodgy" at best , and I noticed at least 2 players who I would say were taking "short steps" on the weekend.

Playing injured players is ultimately unproductive for the injured players and for the development of their potential replacements as well as the team as a whole. The time is right to change the current policy.

Would they really make that much of a difference. Vez is the only one who was seriously unlucky. TDL looked beyond nervous in every single game and I can't see what he will add for the rest of the season. LJ is an unknown, so he could be a good in but only if he is considered best 22, not because he is young.
Start again next year, fresh approach, new coach etc. Kirk and Roos will be gone, so that is the official end of the era. Back Roos for the rest of the year, considering how much joy him and the team have given us over the years.

Questioning the team to the extent that you won't support them is ridiculous.

EDIT: Plenty of youngsters have received gametime this year, so I don't even get all the overreactions. He has played the kids.

Yeah he's played a couple

but comments such as "they havn't worked hard enough" is total BS

Yeah so Trent Dennis-Lane had the yips im pretty sure Chris Judd has the Yips in his 1st few games you just have to let the have a few games strung together and before you know it they have got the idea!

Judd wasn't nervous, he hit the ground running and was a jet to begin with. TDL is the most nervous looking debutant I have seen in ages and while he might turn out to be a gun, his confidence was way down. Vez I can understand the complaints because he looked good in his first game. Coaches don't like certain players so that might be all that is. That's why I'm saying wait until next year with a new coach and fresh approach.

I just don't like all the posts turning on Roos. Great player, great coach and that all gets forgotten because he won't play 2 or 3 young players in the last few games.

Great post Soph!
You make some terrific points.
One thing that the coaches will be wary of is sending in a young skinny kid to get smashed from pillar to post.

I've no doubt that last week, Roos would have dropped & rested a few players if we were playing a lesser team then Geelong but he chose to play a few of the harder bodies & give them a chance to redeem themselves.

I'm sure there will be a few changes this week.
First cab off the rank will be Vez in for Moore. Rest assured, is Vez doesn't get a game this week, then we can be pretty sure that he must be on the outer with the coaches. Whether it be on field or off field issues who knows but time will tell. He at least desrves a go now as we have nothing to gain by playing the same old, same old!

Rhino has an injury problem..................it's so obvious as he is a shadow of himself compared to 2009..................yet he looks in good shape.
The fact that they have had him forward for long patches may suggest groin problems.
Give him a rest. Move Bevo forward...................or how's this for different.........throw Bevo in the middle for the odd centre bounce. We know he'll be in & under & hard as nails. He will be an instant (fitter) replacement for O'Keefe in the midfield.
Goodes to the middle, Lewis Johnson into the team as a forward alongside White. Let the future of the Swans find their own place in the team & leave them there NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT 4 WEEKS!!

As a supporter, I don't care too much for finals at this point in time but I at least would love to see a few changes with some young (unpredictable) guys having a run. Let them make mistakes in these final 4 weeks. God forbid..............we just may pinch a couple of these games.
But should we miss finals (who cares), then we'll be forced to watch these kids make a lot more mistakes in the first 4 rounds next year!

Any Soph! I fully agree with your sentiment as long as these kids don't get smashed by hardened opposition. That could have a negative effect long term!!
Cheers!

Well said.

I am staggered that Vez and Johnston aren't playing. Both are first rounders and we need them in the side, gaining valuable experience. :thumbsu:

Hardly the sort of stats that suggest the senior side is full of honest triers.:(

I csan't beleive people don't want TDL in the team. Yes he looked nervious but he provided a real forward target and once he feels more comfortable his kicking will improve (as i have heard he is a very good set shot on goal). Still TDL kick 2 goals in 2 games which is still about as good as what White is doing at the moment.

I can't believe how many Swans posters don't rate finals.

Uhhhh................Aussie Gun?

The last time I looked, finals are played against teams in the top 8.

Other then that rabble Carlton a few weeks ago, we haven't beaten a top eight team in 2 years! Hell................we couldn't beat Richmond after a 33 point lead & we got smashed by Melbourne. That's not what a finals team is suppoed to do.

No! I am one Swans fan that is, at this point in time, VERY happy not to rate the finals.

If we are to make it though, we are going to have to beat one of Hawthorn, Freo & Bulldogs AND we have to beat the Lions away. We haven't done that for the last two years.

Let's just start developing the youngsters NOW.

If finals are a genuine prospect (they are more than a genuine prospect for us) you do everything possible to make it. It doesn't matter if you think we might not make it out of the first week, who cares? All players and teams play to make that top 8. Anything can happen from there. Who thought we'd knock off Port in '03 at AAMI in week 1 almost leading us to a GF spot?

Do you really want our team to be turned over to the under 21's in Kirk and Roos' last 4 games, rendering any chance of them finishing their careers where they belong (in the finals) impossible?

I want Vez and LJ in now as i genuinely think they can improve this side and help us hold onto our spot in the 8 and that should be the aim right now.

We are 8th and have come off two bad weeks. You'd think we are 14th reading the Swans board atm.

There are 4 games left, it's not going to make or break the youngsters in the reserves if they don't play again. Getting finals experience into Hanners, Jetta could be our last chance for 5+ years. It's stupid that you want to see something that is 100% certain to happen next year (blood youngsters) over something that might not happen for a long time (finals action).

Roos picks the best 22, he has done a good job since he started, why doubt him for the last few weeks? Just accept he might not like Vez. A personality clash is all it could be.

That's the only reason they should come in. If Roos thinks they will help us win, not because of the date on their birth certificate.

Yes!

They are the two I mentioned for inclusion & I'm sure we will improve 5 goals with those inclusions.
Unfortunately Swans120..............we lost the last two games by 73 & 50 odd points respectively.
A HUGE turnaround is needed to make finals. Then we can worry about rating them.
Sure! Finals are something we are rated by. But I don't rate any opposition team that just falls in. I won't rate ours should we!

I think the general impression in this thread is that the best 22 aren't necessarily all playing in the ones ATM.Especially with apparent level of effort made last week by a couple of them.
