Equal Last!

Normally I'd say this would be a big shock but our season has been cooked for a few weeks now so frankly, doesn't surprise me :(

Guys I think we need to keep the faith, a lot of us are just overreacting.. I just had a look at the ladder predictor and if... I mean after we win the rest of our games.. we WILL make the 8! Considering we didn't waste useless energy playing those games at the start of the year, come finals we will go unbeaten and win the Grand Final!

Just sit back and enjoy the ride......

Our list management and football department needs a proper review.

Questions need to be asked about our recruitment strategy; has the feel of Frawley era
No need to panic, the club is not deviating from the course it set before the season began

Big .******* deal.
It makes no difference to me whether we finish 9th or last. In fact let's be completely honest.
Last shits on 9th.

No it doesn't. I'd rather see our team win 7-10 games and still get a top draft pick than finish last.

Surely this is all wrong. I expect our percentage to be 150+

What a circlejerk of negativity this thread is!

Before I go on about my point, just so that any skimmers of this post don't miss it, here are some facts from yesterdays game with the Dockers:

We had 95 more disposals than Fremantle yesterday, 10 more tackles, 14 more Inside 50's, double the Centre Clearances (16-8), a better Disposal Efficiency (76% to 73%), equal amount of scoring shots (25 apiece), and only 4 more clangers (41-37).

Okay, so we're 3-9 with a percentage of 93%, it's a shit w/l record. But to me it's actually the percentage, and in a micro-form the above stats, that is a better indication of the type of season we have had and are having.

Wins - GWS by 114, Brisbane by 43, Carlton by 12.
Losses - Hawthorn by 66, Essendon by 50, Collingwood by 38, North by 28, Fremantle by 20, Gold Coast by 18, Melbourne by 17, Geelong by 5, Western Bulldogs by 2.

I'm not going to talk about the wins, because I think they are pretty self explanatory in their reasoning.

In terms of the losses, there have only been 3 matches where we have been totally outclassed and never in the game at all, and they were against the Hawks, Dons, and Pies. The reigning premiers, a Top 4 contender, and a team capable of playing Top 4 quality football on its' day. Need to get better with these performances, no question.

All of the other losses have been games where, at some point or another in the contest, we have been in a highly winnable position, but haven't taken our opportunities or had the composure to see it through. That reeks to me of a team burdened by the pressure of expectation. A team that is capable of playing to a higher standard, but hasn't done so this year on a consistent enough basis.

I am on record to say that I think the North Melbourne loss is one of the worst losses of the past 20 years, due to its' context. I was mortified when that happened. So I'm not saying that I am not angry about this season, because I am. But I seem to have something that many people on this forum don't grasp... RATIONAL THOUGHT!

Seriously, why can nobody who follows this team see that this year is a year of close misses and bad timing, rather than complete meltdown. The media might be portraying it as a meltdown, but that's what they're paid to do, and you guys lap it up like cats lap up milk in a dish.

Let me explain the REALITY of the situation:

We are a good team in bad form. We are not a Top 4 contending team in bad form, and we are not just a "shit" team, we are (and always were) a 5th to 12th team, that if it is playing at its'' best, can challenge and beat 3/4's of the competition, but that at its' worst form, can also lose to those teams.

When we are on song, we beat lowly teams by 7 goals+, we win a good deal of our 50/50's, and we are competitive against the best and occasionally catch them on a bad day and beat them (see 2013). When we aren't on song, we'll still usually beat lowly teams, unless they absolutely play out of their skin, in-which case we may lose by a goal or two, and that victory is then considered by the lowly team as a massive upset. We'll also lose alot of our 50/50's, and still occasionally challenge the very best, but also sometimes be prone to a flogging (see 2014).

In lamens terms, on the outside we OVER-achieved last year, and we're UNDER-achieving this year, but regardless of results we are still developing the list and getting better in other areas. The results will come, and we are on the right track, we just need to keep faith in our club, and not try to force their hands like we always do, just because we're going worse than what we expected.

I KNOW success is close, I can see us having a year where we shoot up the ladder and do a Port Adelaide in 2014, or an Adelaide in 2012, West Coast in 2011, etc.

We lost. The only fact or stat that matters.
Nor sure he even cares at the moment.

Yep, swanning around with Sponsors while the club is going to shit. Great look for RFC. Must be kicking himself he missed out on the AFL job!

**** it, just tank, get the draft pick. no use trying to salvage a shitty season for respect. noone respects richmond anyways, not since the 80's anyways.
The only problem with that is that Hardwick desperately needs to get us winning consistently to keep his job. The club can not through the season in the bin with him in charge. He's got to prove he can coach and get these players up to the standard they where playing last year. We beat Hawks and Freo last year ( nearly beat Freo in Perth also) so to shut up shop without replacing him would be the dumbest thing to do on earth unfortunately . If they have their eye on someone else then shut up shop now .

That is a very good and well reasoned post, ReaperX and, unfortunately, will not penetrate some of the closed minds on these boards.
Our core group is still as talented as last year, most are injured to some extent or well down on form, or both, this is the major reason we are 3-9, not Hampson, Petterd or Thomas, not Benny Gale going to Brazil at the request of our major sponsor Jeep, indicates to me that rash decisions are not being contemplated:thumbsu:.

As delusional as any Essendon supporter that post.

Wow, somebody actually gets it. :o

Sometimes I feel like I'm Galileo trying to explain that the Earth is not flat.

As delusional as any Essendon supporter that post.

Explain.

Don't just make assertions, actually explain why I'm delusional. I'm willing to listen to your points without any pre-conceptions or bias.

I'll say one thing though, to me, delusional is saying that we're still a chance to make the finals this year, which is not what I was saying at all. What I actually said seems perfectly rational imo, and I've even provided evidence for such thought as well.

I haven't just asserted that "WE'RE GONNA MAKE THE FINALS NEXT YEAR" without clearly showing you evidence that suggests we are better than we are showing.

So explain.

This is a team of downhill skiers. No two ways about it.

The only player's who consistently seem to play okay when the chips are Riewoldt, Cotchin and Rance.

Deledio is the biggest downhill skier of them all. What a career he could have had.
