What's the bet Essendon will screw us just like they did with Michael Hurley.I wanted him before Daniel Rich but we got Chris Yarran who will be good but will go back home i reckon. What's the bet Luke Tapscott will go to Essendon if Port Adelaide don't get him and he still around. We probably get a lovely butterfly who goes to havard university

thats what happens when we finish above them. would of loved hurley in our side but not to be. whatever happens hopefully we can get someone to suit our needs.

How did they screw us with Hurley?

Did we pass with pick six?

The facts are Essendon could have done with a Hurley as much as any of the sides with picks five to nine.

Essendon weren't topping up, but replacing Fletcher or Lloyd with Hurley...

Good luck with that...

Maybe Neagle, Gumbleton and Hooker will stand up and become stars.

Carlton aren't going to fall apart or never make it to a GF because we don't have Hurley...

We should shut up shop if that's the case...

I think you've been reading too much of BigFooty and listening to the media.

Let's hope not. With Warnock, Waite, Jammo and Austin we actually have not real need for KPP immediately next year.

We really need a strong 'inside' mid or two and a natural goalkicker to assist our forward structure.

Although if we were to miss on someone like Tapscott we should really focus on someone like Van Unen with our 2nd rounder. ;)

Sure but we have absolutely no depth should any of them get injured again. Cloke, Edwards, Bannister, Fisher and Hartlett are all at the crossroads and all 190cm+. If we're serious about challenging for a flag, none of them is anywhere near our best 30, let alone 22. (Perhaps I'm being a little harsh on Edwards, as I haven't seen much of him...)

Aside from Warnock and Kreuzer, we've recruited players 189cm and under the last 2 years. We need to draft to plan for the retirements of Scotland and Stevens certainly but some talls are needed too.

2006
1. Gibbs
2. Gumbleton

17. Hampson
18. Jetta

19. Grigg
20. Hislop

We haven't done too badly screwing Essendon, just quietly.

About time they got a top 10 pick right after Myers and Gumbleton (like him but perennially injured) in the last two years.
Sorry to 'intrude'.

I've never really thought about a comparison of those picks; that really doesn't look good from our perspective. Gumbleton is the wildcard, as injuries have cruelly prevented him from even having a chance to make it.

However Hislop was a disaster, and Jetta was a waste of such a high pick in a Super Draft.

Kudos, I guess.

Dont want Tapscott.
Racist!

Tapscott is no Albert Proud. ;)

I'd take a tall with one of our picks, yet you can't predict how the cards will fall at the draft.

There won't be a Mitch Robinson there at 40 this year. :(

Carlton would plan for Jamison, Waite and Austin to be on deck next year.

I hope you don't want us to draft a player to fill a need or as fall back for injury. ;)

I don't want Panos if it's a reach.

Yet I said the same thing about Grigg in 2006. :)

Hawthorn went for talls in the 2004 draft and got lucky.

That policy is questionable if you look at who they passed on for Dowler and Thorp.

I'm sure someone will come up with a long winded excuse to argue that we have to draft for need and pick a KPP because our list is out of wack.

And this is the last draft before the GC and GWS take over.

Wouldn't the clubs who have plenty of talls target mids if that's what they need?

West Coast and Essendon might need to find a quality wingman and mid in this draft.

Someone we rate might fall through to our pick if the clubs with the pick of the talent draft for need.

This would be the draft to do that.

A bolter could throw the top ten out and see someone slide.

Kudos, I guess.

Nothing to thank us for.

Gibbs selected himself at #1, you probably would have taken Hammer instead of Jetta seeing as you would have thus missed out on Gumby (Essendons insistence on 'drafting fast indigenous players with all other things being equal' aside) - and the Grigg/Hislop pick was 50/50 either way.

Goes to show what a move up the Draft ladder a single pick can do though.

With Jammo, Waite, Irish and Austin back on board we'll certainly be better equipped with KPP options than we are quality 'inside' mids.

We desperately need a durable version of a Selwood, Lewis or Sewell.

Judd needs some help with the contested ball and i'd love us to get a Trengove (won't happen), Tapscott, a Koby Stevens or (top aged) Justin Van Unen.

I also would love a Talia or Griffiths to add to our KPP and a natural goalkicking medium or mid-large sized forward.

These decisions effected would see our list rounded out nicely in my opinion. :thumbsu:

He play forward or backline?

Gibbs is a nice win

Bloody oaf they are, an ideal three picks in the draft would include a tall forward, a key backman and a fast 'inside' mid/forward (as in, a flexible player who is primarily a midfielder). Just because we have players of a certain height and weight on our list doesn't automatically mean that we have all the boxes ticked.

Really?

So in the backline we have Bower, Jamison, Austin and Thornton.

Setanta as backup and Waite if required?

Forward we have Fev, Kreuzer and Waite filling two spots, again, Setanta as backup.......didn't even get to Cloke.

Not many sides would cope with losing their best two defenders and then their first back-up.

Look at how the Cats did without Scarlett and Taylor.

Thornton or Bower >>>>>. Lonergan at FB. ;)

We have depth, and you can only stockpile so many.

I can see an arguement for a forward but more in the medium term as a Fev replacement. If we want something for a flag then an inside mid might be on the cards......but how long will it take an 18y.o. "inside" mid to become a good inside mid at AFL level?

We already have picked Robbo to work into this sort of role IMO.

Maybe Bentley will have a really good pre-season. :D

I'd be happy with an inside mid or a KPP forward.

I'd just draft talls

Replacements for Stevo & Scotland are in the workings anyway, ie. Yarran & Robbo, for example. Besides, Stevo &b Scotty are not as vital tot he team as they once were and we have guys like Walks, JR & Robbo etc who are all capable of playing middle

We need talls.

Bluebear, you seem to have missed my point that we'll delist 3, and possibly up to 5, players 190cm+ or taller. Add to that, as celtic_pride reported, Setanta has a recurring condition that may restrict his playing future.

By contrast, of the onball 'smalls', only Bentick's career seems over - assuming we give Scotland and Stevens 1 more year.

By all means select an 'inside midfielder' with your first pick if you think there are quality talls in picks 2, 3 and 4.

Kreuzer aside (a ruck), we only have Austin as a genuine key position player in our youngest 10 players. Unless Tiller has grown a couple of inches, surely we'll have an imbalance of flankers and onballers?
