I can't believe it, we are really missing Graham, can't take a contested grab to save ourselves. Ottens = dud, wish we got Thompson. We must win our next 4 games to have any chance of winning the flag, can't see it happening though, tonight was one of the most frustrating nights I have spent in footy, listening to the radio and hearing constant inside 50s being repelled. We have so much talent yet we are unable to do anything that warrants notice.

WCL, I was telling your geelong mates this from day one. Ben Graham was a much better forward than ottens. Ottens is soft and goes missing under pressure. And to think he's getting about $500k a year too.

Just got back from the game/...

was a preety good game. bit scrappy really... but not bad. close, goal for goal for most of it.

umpires very very poor for both teams..... dons prolly got better of them.

fair enough, I haven't seen it yet either so I guess I can't really comment too much.
to be continued at a later stage...
;)

why is that bloody kingsley always has a day out against us? he'll end up with 8 or 9 at this rate. :(
ok, I've seen it now, and it was soft...
;)

some pretty bloody ordinary umpiring both ways tonight though - both teams got soft frees, and a couple of goals from them.
disappointing really.

Geelong served up absolute rubbish tonight and got burnt for trying to play a high possession skillful game in the first half when conditions weren't right for it. Players overheld the ball going sideways, down the wings to a halt and Geelong players repeatedly refused to kick it long. It was a small part of their downfall on a night they weren't hungry enough for the victory and were outplaye by a more determined Bomber outfit. Dyson, Stanton, Lovett and Lovett-Murray were 4 of the younger Bombers who notably injected some of the pace into the side Essendon desperately needed and a few more kids like them playing well and they could win a few games yet this season.

If we win our last 4 games (which are all winnable) then 11-11 is an outside chance to finish 8th.

I went to the ladder predictor on allthestats.com, and gave us wins in our last 4 games and went for the favourites to win all the other 28 games and that left us 8th. And I didn't "manufacture" those other 28 games to suit Essendon. I legitimately selected who I thought would win, and provided we did our bit by winning 4, that left us 8th.

Until a team loses their 12th game of the season (which hasn't happened yet), then the season is still alive.

11-11 is quite a normal, acceptable win-loss record for an 8th-placed team.

In short, you never give up hope until that 12th loss of the season has happened.

Sure there wasn't a percentage problem Dan.

No, the ladder ended up looking like this:

The only thing I did that favoured Essendon was have us win our last 4 games. The other results, I simply selected who i thought would win, with the odd upset (just to be realistic) thrown in every now and again.

1. West Coast 22 18 4 0 2335 1807 72 129.2
2 Adelaide 22 16 6 0 2085 1639 64 127.2
3 St Kilda 22 15 7 0 2396 1885 60 127.1
4 Sydney 22 14 8 0 1921 1801 56 106.6
5 Geelong 22 13 9 0 2226 1985 52 112.1
6 Kangaroos 22 13 9 0 2084 2086 52 99.9
7 Bris Lions 22 11 11 0 2286 2087 44 109.5
13 Essendon 22 11 11 0 2097 2241 44 93.5

10 Port Adel 22 10 11 1 2006 2164 42 92.6
11 Fremantle 22 10 12 0 2112 2067 40 102.1

8 Melbourne 22 10 12 0 2191 2307 40 94.9
9 Richmond 22 10 12 0 1983 2190 40 90.5

I did the same (Essendon winning all four remaining games) and then picking who I thought would win the rest but had us missing out on the eight comfortably on percentage.

Missing out on percenatge still only means one upset loss from the team above us could see us go into 8th.

I still think it's possible, IF we win our last 4 games, of course.
