Yeah, I'll be one of the first of many to do the scragglers Phantom Draft. I'll probably do 4 rounds just so I can get every club one pick (Bloody Geelong). I'll only do write-ups for the first round. Anyway, here goes:

First Round

1. Carlton: Jacob Weitering (Victoria Country, 195 cm, 90 kg, Key Defender). Widely acknowledged as the best player in the draft, seems most likely to be taken at pick 1 for Carlton, who desperately need good talls at either end.

2. Brisbane: Joshua Schache (VC, 199 cm, 96 kg, Key Forward). Seen as the premier key forward in this draft, Brisbane will likely pounce on him as their key target for the future.

3. Sydney: Callum Mills (New South Wales, 188 cm, 78 kg, Inside Midfielder). Mills is the first of the Academy players to be bid on by Melbourne, forcing Sydney to take him here. Sydney will use picks 33, 36, 37 and 44 to match, pick 33 will move back to pick 91, pick 54 will move forward to pick 46.

4. Melbourne: Darcy Parish (VC, 181 cm, 73 kg, Outside Midfielder). Melbourne traded up to bid on Mills and then take Parish ahead of Essendon, needing to add to their midfield class on the outside.

5. GWS: Jacob Hopper (NSW, 186 cm, 82 kg, IM). Essendon will bid on Hopper here I believe to force GWS to take him here. GWS will use picks 10 and 34 to match. Pick 10 will move back to 96 and pick 43 will move forward to pick 24.

6. Essendon: Aaron Francis (South Australia, 192 cm, 89 kg, defender/midfielder). Essendon will take Aaron Francis as their first pick, who will learn and grow under Brendan Goddard's tutelage, as he could become a very similar player.

7. GWS: Matthew Kennedy (NSW, 187 cm, 84 kg, IM). Essendon will bid on Kennedy here I predict, forcing GWS to take him here. GWS will use picks 24, 53, 58, 63. Pick 64 moves up to pick 63.

8. Essendon: Sam Weideman (Victoria Metro, 196 cm, 91 kg, KF). Essendon will take Weideman here to partner Daniher for the next 10 years as a hard working Centre-Half Forward.

9. Gold Coast: Wayne Milera (SA, 185 cm, 75 kg, OM). Gold Coast will try to mitigate the loss of Bennell with the acquisition of Milera, who plays a very similar style to Bennell.

10. Melbourne: Charlie Curnow (VC, 191 cm, 95 kg, KF). Melbourne are searching for a partner to Hogan for a long time as well, and Curnow fits the bill perfectly for them, being able to roam up the ground.

11. Brisbane: Eric Hipwood (Queensland, 200cm, 82 kg, Key Swingman). I expect Carlton to bid on Hipwood here because they'll want another KPF and just in case Brisbane leave him. Brisbane will match using picks 38, 39 and 40. Pick 38 will move back to pick 79, pick 41 will move forward to pick 30.

12. Carlton: Rhys Mathieson (VC, 185 cm, 79 kg, IM). Mathieson is an inside midfielder that Carlton will want to take here since they missed out on a key forward, their inside stocks are looking a bit thin after the loss of Bell.

13. Adelaide: Riley Bonner (SA, 191 cm, 79 kg, Utility). Bonner is a tall midfielder who can be used forward or back which could appeal to Adelaide who have a well-balanced squad right now.

14. Brisbane: Ben Keays (Qld, 183 cm, 78 kg, Balanced Midfielder). I expect Carlton to bid on Brisbane's other academy prospect here. Brisbane will use pick 30 and 42 to match. Pick 30 will move back to pick 79 and pick 78 will move forward to pick 65.

15. Carlton: Harry McKay (VC, 200 cm, 85 kg, KF). Carlton will take McKay due to needing a key forward as well as a key defender with this draft.

16. Richmond: Kieran Collins (VC, 192 cm, 94 kg, KD). Richmond will need a key defender for the future with question marks over Astbury's injuries and whether Grimes will ever be able to be a 2nd tall, Collins is the obvious choice here.

17. Adelaide: Clayton Oliver (VC, 187 cm, 86 kg, IM). Adelaide will need to replace Dangerfield in the middle and at this point Oliver is the closest of doing that for the Crows.

18. St. Kilda: Ryan Clarke (VM, 180 cm, 77 kg, OM). St. Kilda need speed and Clarke has that in spades, so this is an obvious choice for the Saints at this pick.

19. Hawthorn: Callum Ah Chee (WA, 182 cm, 71 kg, Small Forward). Hawthorn don't have any pressing needs so they can afford to go for best available from here.

20. Gold Coast: Darcy Tucker (VC, 184 cm, 78 kg, Small Defender). Gold Coast also don't have any pressing needs so Tucker fits in with them well here as a small defender who will transition into the midfield.

21. North Melbourne: Harley Balic (VM, 186 cm, 80 kg, OM). North also have some speed requirements and Balic fits the bill for them here. Will play on a wing for a while.

22. Hawthorn: Jade Gresham (VM, 177 cm, 74 kg, BM). Again, best available here and could learn a trick or two off Sam Mitchell.

23. Carlton: Mitchell Hibberd (Tasmania, 191 cm, 85 kg, Medium Defender). Hibberd doesn't really fill a need for Carlton but his kicking is excellent, which they need plenty of.

How does Essendon have pick 49
The academy selections means that Brisbane, GWS and Sydney lose their 2nd/3rd round picks ahead of Essendon's pick 57, which means Essendon move up the order.

So what happens to Josh Dunkley if Sydney take Mitch Brown with their 2nd pick? Surely (if he nominates Sydney) another side will bid on him by the 2nd round at the latest?

Amazingly I forgot to include Dunkley. He hasn't nominated Sydney and I was supposed to slot into Collingwood. Human error.
Great work. If essendon miss out on parish im hoping we take parington.
I'm not overly enthusiastic about Parish, I think Partington will be just as good at a later pick.

Okay sick didn't think of that haha nice work what type of players are the two you have mocked to Essendon at 24&25

Another club bids for him, then Sydney either match and go in to debt for 2016, or pass and he goes to the other club.

Two inside/outside midfielders. Partington has more pace than Lovell.

Pretty sure he has to nominate Sydney first.

Hasn't nominated Sydney yet.. he still has a little while before the decision needs to be made doesn't he, or has that ship already sailed?

Personally would be surprised if Collingwood did take him. Understand depth is important however after chasing hard for Aish and Treloar to their midfield and already contested mids like himself in Crisp, Adams, Broomhead, De Goey (not to mention SP, SS and DS) I would think they would be looking more in other areas. Best available player can trump attempted crafty list management though admittedly.

Yep, the other poster had already covered that - I was going along with their assumption. Got til 31 October to nominate.

I don't see Collingwood's biggest need (2nd KPF) having anybody around there so just go BA.

I don't expect him to nominate tbh, unfortunately for Swans fans
The draft order is horribly wrong. But appreciate the effort.
No, it's not when you take the academy and father-son bidding process into account. Might want to read that part of it.

I have calculated
GWS points 3,300
Hopper 5 and Kennedy 7 = 3,500 but they get a 25% discount for Academy players
You realise this don't you
How will they go into defectit?

30 on Bailey Rice adds up to 629 minus 25% = 472 which means St Kilda actually will go into deficit

1. It's a 20% discount
2. They have 10, 34, 43, 53, 55, 58, 63, 64, 65. I forgot to include 43 so that's my fault.

GWS should be fine. 3300 points to cover 2800

Rice however will get tricky. Not the best trade period if go to deficit

They go into a 95 point deficit. Nothing too bad, if they finish 14th again it means that their pick 5 is still pick 5, just it goes down to 1783 points instead.

Ok
how so?

You convinced GWS are fine?
