Hasn't he saved our bacon this half?

I posted straight after the goal, didn't get to see the 2nd half as at work. He's a fine shot stopper and especially when he's one on one, but his control of the box is woeful. Just sick of conceding comedy goals like this morning. It's at least half a dozen goals this season shipped in part due to his terrible positioning.

Yeah I know what you mean, although you'd expect Heitinga to get his head to that long ball.

I missed most of the 2nd half too, but according to twitter, Howard made a handful of great saves towards the end.

Yeah, I can only assume Heitinga pulled out deliberately because he got a call, just shitty all round.

Great result and keeps us in touching distance. What a strike by Baines. Anichebe if he can stay fit, can be a very competent player at Prem league level. Probably suited to the occasional start and 30 odd minutes bursts off the bench currently.

Some further good news, the signing of Green. This kid is going to be an absolute star.

Brilliant win. Happy with how we came from behind.

Few thoughts:

Heitinga clearly doesn't want to be there. I love the bloke and his aggression, but he is a liability at the moment. I would have prefered if Neville played RB, Jags to CB and Heitinga went into a holding midfield spot. I think it would suit Johnny more at the moment.

No surprises we looked better when Naismith went off. He is a good squad depth player, but nothing else. Big Vic deserves to hold that RM spot. We look dangerous with him, peanuts, jelly (totally out of form) and The Fro all up front.

Jelavic is out of form but he isn't getting the opportunities like he was at the end of last season. Great ball from him for Big Vic. Agree that he needs to be starting ahead of Naismith.

What i'd do to have Mirallas and Coleman back in the side. It'd have Heitinga back on the bench, we need to get another good CB though. Distin is only getting older.

Next game is the FA Cup tie against Cheltenham, Cheltenham are currently 4th in the nPower Ligue 2 competition and should be a walk over (probably be tougher than the Newcastle game).

Hope it's on TV because I'd love to see some of the young blokes get a run out. I'm pretty sure ESPN have the FA cup.
Our FA cup tie will be televised on the UK so it should be televised here.

Awesome! Wonder when we will find out what time?

I don't believe in the whole resting players when you have "easy" opposition since we lost to Shrewsbury Town all those years ago, but Baines, Jags, Osman & Pienaar should be rested in my opinion... Tricky one is Jelavic, give him a breather or hope he scores a few?

Not sure why he wasn't in the squad last night, but if he's fit, start Barkley

Jagielka re-signs through to 2017

Very happy Jags has signed on as he has been magnificent this year, although seems a long contract given his age.
I guess the plan next year will be for Jags to play alongside Duffy at CB or perhaps Lescott if he is a chance to return. I still want Heitinga to stay but if he leaves it will free up a lot in wages.

Agree on the age front, it is a very long term. Hopefully he stays at the top of his game for that long.

Hope Duffy gets a game this weekend.
