We've enquired about Berahino which is a move I approve of. Think he balances well with Lukaku in style, either off his shoulder or beyond him when Rom hits up.

Is a quality player when fit, and has proven he can score on his own without much assistance (I'm thinking moreso his 2014/15 term than last year), so should be even better with a strong strike partner and better team around him. Same age as Big Rom too (born just three months apart), but they didn't actually play a PL game together when Rom was on loan at West Brom, despite Berahino being a Baggies lifer.

West Brom have found a way to win without Berahino, and he's probably also outgrown that club a bit too, so it would be a good move for them, for him, and for us.

So, we can end up as high as 7th (where we are now) and as low as 8th (if Southampton beat Tottenham, and we lose or draw against Hull) at the turn of the new year. All things considered, do we really deserve to be higher right now? I know the wasted potential and missed opportunities sting, but it seems like a decent result, considering we haven't really even played that well. I mean, should we really be ahead of any of the big 4/6 clubs, either on paper or in reality?

We could be higher, but I guess being 7th/8th is about right. Like I've said many times before, our best 11 is quality but we never have the depth to really compete.

To truly evaluate Koeman he needs a minimum of 2 more transfer windows to clear out the deadwood & bring in his own players. After that there's nothing to hide behind, but for the rest of this season he needs to still show why players still want to sign for us.

Numerous publications saying we've won the battle for Lookman. Looks a similar type to Berahino so I wonder if he's off the table. Though after our last few windows I'm not getting my hopes up that we've made a signing until it's official.

Is it tough maintaining such a positive attitude all the time?
Very. He's playing a dutch style of football that doesn't work anywhere outside of the netherlands. You won't win games by firing in crosses all the time unless you have players like Ronaldo and Messi crossing the ball. He doesn't care about midfield creativity.. I mean ffs he's putting Cleverly and Barry out together. The guy has, is and always will be an ordinary manager outside of the Netherlands.

Look at his managerial statistics. One thing that is noticeable outside of the Netherlands is his lack of ability to get teams to score goals. In 194 games his teams have scored 269 goals. That's pretty shit.

Imo you need more scoring options. You have a great centre forward but so do the 6 clubs above you.
Ibra, Costa, Kun, Sanchez, Kane, Firmino/Sturridge.

What those other sides have is more avenues to score goals. The calibre of players needed may not be in reach without European football (unless you offer large wages). Coutinho, Lallana, Hazard, Pedro, Ozil, Eriksen, Alli, KDB, Silva, Mata, Martial, Pogba are all players who play directly behind or beside their striker, this calibre of player Everton don't presently have imo. What do you intend to use Barkley as a no8 or a no10?

Your defence is decent enough and Gueye may be the signing of the summer, wanted him if we didn't get Wanyama. Very good DM.
You're entitled to your opinion on Koeman, this is your thread but 2c from the outside when Koeman at Soton had some good attacking options (albeit a lesser striker) he achieved decent results. Tadic, Pelle, Mane, Austin and Long are decent options in lieu of a top striker, that group of players under his tutelage had wins over Spurs, Arsenal (plural), Utd, Liverpool (plural) and Chelsea. Not bad.
With those players he achieved 1.5 goals a game in the league, that'd net 57 goals a season. Last time you made Europe (13/14) you scored 61 and we also made it with 55 goals.

As I said, you're entitled to your opinion on RK, he's your manager, not mine. That said wouldn't you at least concede he may need to clear out some "deadwood" and recruit some more attacking options?
Probably need a collective upgrade on Deulofeu, Lennon, Mirallas and Bolasie. Only one of them he bought. Maybe another summer window before you can judge him properly? Let him assemble a squad of his own. We were not great whilst Poch had our dead weight but much better with his squad.

A good signing for you would be Schneiderlin, at Soton he worked well alongside a DM (Gueye) and could again do that for you. Depay is a bit meh though. Big opinion of himself.

That's the thing. He had decent attacking options and he stymied them and made them play wide balls to wingers. 140 goals in 91 games with Soton. Not really great reading, given they won just under half of the games under him. He's tightened up our defence (slightly, especially lately compared to earlier in the season) but he's made our attack worse. Rom has scored 10 in the EPL.. next best is Coleman on 3. That's right.. our Right back is our second leading goal scorer and he doesn't take penalties. Last year sucked arse and Barkley at least had 8 goals. We're on par for less goals. The only thing making it look good is our league position because the middle is so even.

He had time to bring people in too.. instead of spent 37 million on crap in the form of Bolasie and Williams.

A draw against Hull? Sigh.

The Transfer Window is plenty of reason for excitement though. Should see some big business...though we thought that in summer.

Can't see how anybody can blame Koeman. He needs longer to revamp the squad. A lot of players need to be moved on.

His buy of Williams for 12 million was shit. We've barely kept a clean sheet this season and he brought a defender in.

He can only be judged from the start of next season as by then it will be his team. I think we will sign at least 4 players on January - Lookman, Depay, Schneiderlin & a creative midfielder who nobody outside the club knows yet.

In the summer, Michael Keane thanks

He had a chance to fix the team. He failed. He hasn't got this team any better than what it was under Martinez. Depay and Schneiderlin are not good buys. They are not what we need

Schneiderlin seems like the perfect bloke to partner Gueye to me, especially with Barry nearing the end.

Depay I'm less sold on, haven't we enough players with questionable attitudes and work rates already?

And you're going way too early on Koeman. Give him a chance. The disaster of a summer window is more on the recruiting staff than him.

Sorry but given his lengthy management history, he gets a short rein. It was him as well, he couldn't close deals and went after ordinary players in Valencia, Williams and Bolasie.. as well as Sissoko.

Williams has been a good buy with Jagielka on the way out and Holgate developing nicely. A good stop gap measure, and 12m was scraps compared to money being paid for others. Bolaise included.

nail on head.

I think axing Koeman would be the wrong thing to do, but given that he only seemed interested in signing players in the 27-32 age range that could help him immediately, I do think there should be a bit of heat coming his way.

He signed DCL, Lookman is young coming in and he's played Holgate/Davies/DCL in the first team.
