Hey everyone,

Just thought I would share a bit of news with you all. I am expecting our first child in October this year. All very exciting stuff!

Anywhoo if it's a girl we are all good with names but are really stuck if it's a boy so thught I'd chuck it out there to see if you guys came up with any interesting suggestions. You can go blind reading the baby names sites etc!

We want something different but nothing too out there like Jupiter or Moonbeam etc etc, plus one that the poor kid won't have to spend it's entire life spelling it out.

Picking a child's name is so fliipin' hard, what can it be shortened to, what will the other kids rhyme it with, does it have some weird meaning!!

Anywhoo just wanted to share the exciting news with you all.

Do you have a certain thing that you like?

My parents didn't know what to call me, but my dad wanted to become a botanist (which didn't eventuate) and he liked the Correa reflexa plant (it's an Australian native flower). So they called me Correa. Information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correa_(plant) wierd way to come about a name!

I think Tara-Elise Grace is a lovely name, I've liked it for ages. Like one of the Lions office staff, I think Aasta is a great name too.

Haha, at school I got called: Korea (north or south?), Korrea, Courier Mail and so forth. Teachers couldn't even pronouce my name and Uni tutors still can't so I just give up! Thats why people call me Cozi, much easier. Callum and Jake are nice boys names.

I quite like Jake and my niece suggested Callum.

Congratulations!

In my experience girls names are easier to pick than boys. Boys names can make or break them! ha

If you have a long last name then it is good to have a short first name. We took over 24 hours to name our first one and 20 minutes to name our second one. Naming a child is a very special experience.

You are in for one hell of a ride!
 
Congrats LL! I think you are onto a good thing in trying to pick a name that is slightly unusual without being too hard to spell. My only suggestion is that you have a hard to spell last name (like mine), try to make the first name as easy to spell as possible!
 
Congrats, i understand your dilemma completely. When we had ours I had a list of girls names as long as your arm and about 5 boys names.

We didn't really know at the time so we got a short list (not so hard for the boys names!) and we met them knew almost immediately. We ended up going for Jack & 3 years later Ben, both of which really suit them now.

I'm surprised Cozi didn't suggest Braddles... or at least Brad.
 
A bloke i use to play cricket with is a made tigers supporter. He called his son Tiger! The kid goes by the name Ty, i didn't believe this guy until he pulled out his medicare card.

A bloke up here, last name Hopper, named his 1st son Rascal & his second Rescue C Hopper. No bull, true story.

Recently (in the last two years) most of my siblings have had babies.

If it is a girl, maybe Hayley? Or if a boy, Matthew?

My oldest sister named her first (6 years ago) Yorke. Yes very strange

(it's prononced york-e)

Then she named her second (2 years ago) Mak. lol. Imagine when he joins

his local footy team. Some good nick names there. :D

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so excited for you! My suggestion for boys' names are Alexander, Daniel, Dominic, Jeremy, David, Andrew, Robert, Nicholas, Michael, Scott, Elliott, Benjamin and Darcy. We went through the whole baby name dilemma last year when we were expecting our second baby in under two years. I LOOVE talking about baby stuff. Forget about baby name books, the two books you have to read are "Up the Duff" by Kaz Cooke (a week to week guide about pregnancy) and Gina Ford's "New Little Contented Baby Book" - it is like an instruction manual for babies and it works!! It is very regimented but it means that your babies with become very predictable and therefore very manageable. My babies have been sleeping 12 hours a night every night from 3 months of age and sleeping 2.5 - 3hrs during the day. My eldest is two now and aside from when he's sick or going through a growth spurt, it's really good. The routines are clearly set out so it makes it easy for a babysitter to follow too. We've been leaving our kids with their grandparents to go to the footy from 3 weeks of age and it's not a problem because the grandparents just follow the routines outlined in the book. It's great! All the best with your little one and I hope you're feeling ok too.:)
