I think we probably only have 9 young players that are a real chance of getting a game this year; Selwood, Hawkins, Gamble, Taylor, Prismall, Djerkurra, Lonergan, Varcoe, Davenport.

Joel Selwood- Expected games: 25 Role: Midfeild Rotation
Already a regular and future leader of the club. The hardest guy at the footy I remember seeing. Should play every game and regularly start in the middle. I think he could very well pole double figure in the Brownlow.

Tom Hawkins- Expected games: 20 Role: CHF/FF
On his way to becoming a regular he is big, strong and should be a key player for us in the future. I'd be hoping for a 40 goal return from him given how dominate we look but will rate him more on his ability to create a contest and work into position.

Ryan Gamble - Expected games:15 Role: Medium marking forward
A clever player who looks like he has the potential to be a Russel Robinson type. Early signs are good with 4 goals to his name. If he can get 4 marks 3 tackles and a goal or 2 a game I would be very happy with his output.

Brent Prismall - Expected games:11 Role Midfeild Rotation
Good disposal on both sides of the body a creative inside midfeilder that is a class above the VFL footy he is playing. I actually expect him to slot straight in when an injury occurs and play like he's been in the side for years.

Harry Taylor - Expected games 9 Role:CHB/Utility
I think this guy will be a reliable player for us. He actually seems a lot like Harley in that he is humble, intelligent and very mature. How much he plays depends on injuries but it looks like he can hold his own at CHB and can also move the ball with purpose.

Trent West: Expected games: 6 Role Ruckmen
Mobile ruckmen with good skills and very good athleticism who has shown a bit in his first two games. If Blake experiences a form slump or one of Ottens and Blake are injured he is a walk up start.

Tom Lonergan- Expected games: 4 Role FF/CHF
Has had a fresh start since his horrific injuries and is tracking quite well. I'm not sold on his future at the cat but a great attitude and good work ethic has got him in the mix. I think he will fall short of a regular filling in when Hawkins or Mooney are injured. It will only get harder in 09 with Hawkins improving.

Nathan Djerkurra -
Expected games 3 Role: Small forward/Wing
Having injury problems at the moment but I am hoping he can get a little seniors action. Not dominating the VFL yet like Prismall is but he has been handy and is a brutal tackler. Probably a year away from making a meaningful impact.

Jason Davenport- Expected games: 2 Role: Wing/HFF
Great running player who finds space. Kicking is improving quickly but probably still below AFL standard. Look good in the NAB cup and was a supertar at times lasy year in the VFL. I would expect him to play a couple of games a do alright at some stage this year.

Travis Varcoe- Expected games: ? Role Small forward
Seems like he is struggling at the minute and looks well off the pace. Has the talent if he works hard and was a revelation early last year before fading. I really have no idea what we will see from the kid. Needs to find more of the ball in the VFL.

What are your expectations?

That's a hard one. It's driven so much by injuries, so at the moment there's an opportunity to get some games in the back line, but no hope in the mid field.
I'm hoping Varcoe will find form and get a dozen games.

Do not think Hawkins will play 20 games... Closer to 15 for me. If Lonergon is looking good, he will play a few more as a forward to give Hawkins a break in the VFL.

But apart from that, pretty much spot on regarding injuries. Will be a feat if Selwood plays 25 games.... How many games did he miss last season?

Hawkins should play all games IMO. Selwood missed four games... has 23 games to date.

Im wondering if we may see Scott Simpson get a game as well he looks likely and his body seems strong enough.

Pretty close to the mark there DanA. Thompson said that he was hoping to blood a few kids a month or so into the season but with Otto being out Westy got his chance early. Varcoe is by all means the most interesting of the lot. Along with Djerrkura, they are the ones that you'd expect to pressure Monty for the small forward role but ATM Monty has shown more than the others.

Trav needs to have more of an impact when he gets the pill and that should start with the VFL. His defensive pressure is somthing that we haven't seen at Geelong before but it is his lack of possessions and not enough goals that may see him struggle to get a lot of games.

When Djerrkura comes back from injury it'll be interesting to see if he can get some form going. Imagine including his speedy rock solid frame to our side . The future's bright but the present aint too bad either.

G'day guys not questioning your predictions but i was curious about Gamble. Has played very well but will he be playin week in week out for a while? Apparently bomber doesnt normally blood the youngsters much in their first year? or this year different?

Its Gambles third year, so there are no excuses for not playing him.
