Go to the eagles website and take a look at our injury list. We all new about Glass and Hansen after their surgury, both out for 6-7 weeks and thus unavailable until about round 5, as well as chronic cripple Gaspar, but I for one had no idea there were so many others. Waters for 3, Hunter has knee for 2-3, Gardi, Selwood, (Brett) Jones, Beeck, Banners, Collica and (Michael) Embley all have slight niggles as well. How many others were aware we were in such a state? How do you think this holds us in stead for the Bullies, especially now considering we know Danny will be out too?

Stress not- That injury list is out of date (not at all surprising thanks to telstra)- it was 6-7 weeks for Gassy and Glass a month ago.

As far as I know, its looking like Glass will be available round 2 (maybe round 1 if we're lucky) and Gassy a few weeks after that, since I imagine they will be playing it very very safe with Calamity Trav.

Waters will also be ready about week 2, and unless there's something I don't know, Gardi, Banners and Hunter should all be right for round 1 unless they go and hurt themselves again.

Early in the year, the biggest worry will be our full back- without Glass, one of Staker, Carroll and Hunter will have to get the job, whilst big Lynchy holds down CHB. (If we play Jako on Rawlings in round 1 then Woosh and co have obviously been taking a few spliffs along to see them through selection night.)

Thanks to his lack of preseason I would think Gardiner will be eased in via the forward line. Someone like Adkins will get an opportunity with Kerr out, and Brauny will likely be promoted to the starting 18. I don't think we really have that many holes against the bullies. Our midfield *should* be good enough to take them, and I for one am relishing the idea of a game against the dogs where Nathan Brown isn't there to kick his requisite 7 goals on Banners.

By round three, I really really hope we have Glass back on the park and with a week of good form under his belt, because any of the other defensive options are going to be way out of their depth against Lloyd. (Buffy can take him! :D)

During the week they actually showed footage of Gaspar training with the main group for the first time this Century. Just seeing him with a ball in his hand and moving in different ways other tan running laps was enough to give hope.

I was of the understanding that Glass would be right to go in Round 1 and one of the news reports said that Gardi was going to play for Claremont this week rather than travel to SA.

With us resting Ben Cousins, Andrew Embley, Chris Judd and David Wirrpunda we should have a light game next week at home with us rotating the new guys through the midfield.

I would still like to know why they are holding young Edwards back.

The Eagles team for the match is:

16 Damien Adkins
6 Drew Banfield
10 Michael Braun
26 Sam Butler
19 Michael Collica
20 Dean Cox
7 Chad Fletcher
48 Jaymie Graham
35 Kasey Green
8 Jeremy Humm
27 Glen Jakovich
42 Paul Johnson
18 Rowan Jones
4 Daniel Kerr
21 Quentin Lynch
33 Phil Matera
2 Andrew McDougall
5 Chad Morrison
12 Kane Munro
31 Mark Nicoski
34 Clancy Rudeforth
28 Ashley Sampi
14 Mark Seaby
41 Brent Staker
13 Josh Wooden

Buffy can take him! :D

At the Telstra Dome last Friday night I kept on shouting out Buffy each time he touched the ball and Melbourne supporters were just staring blankly at me.....

FWIW I do not think he was that bad on Friday...especially when this was his first game of the season.

LOL!!! They must have thought you were mad!!!
My friend's dog's called Buffy, I'll probably start calling it Brent in no time!

I hated the way the commentators kept going on about him. I think they expected a bit much of him, he's not Judd, and he's only played a handfull of games.

i don't think the injury list is as bad as what it was. Guys are slowly getting back on the park, and i think we'll be pretty fit and firing by round one, with only a few regulars out of the team......

Well that's a relief. And by the way, my dog is called Buffy too! Do I perchance know you, Juddamania?

Scarily enough, my brother's dog is also called buffy. Perhaps the eagles community on bigfooty is actually a lot smaller than previously thought? :D

I think the question needs to be asked WHY are there so many preseason injuries??? This is nothing new to the club and has been happening for at least 3 - 4 years and ended up costing Judgy his coaches job. I would hate to see the same thing happen to Woosha. I believe that the club needs to have a close look at the people responsible for conditioning the players during the preseason because at present whatever they are doing isn't working. We all know that without a proper preseason the players will never be able to play at their full potential. The worring concern is that a number of these players had an interrupted preseason last year
and will miss out again. The other problem is when they come back they inevitably get injured again.
This problem is NOT a case of BADLUCK it is BAD MANAGEMENT

Sorry, but Judge's coaching cost Judge his job

In the modern game, I believe player conditioning is a part of coaching and at the very least is the responsibility of the entire coaching staff. Judge changed recovery methods and what happened is a reflection of his coaching. I have said before that I believe the problem atm is the early identification of injuries, rather than their treatment.

How can it be bad management? They've specifically held back Gaspar and he got injured....... they were bringing Gardiner in slowly.... and he goes pulls a hamstring... thats bad luck.

And in the latest development in the mystery of the expanding and contracting injury list, Glass and Gassy have somehow experienced a period of 'missing time' and gained a week overnight thanks to the injury list finally be updated.

According to the WCE site, its 4-5 weeks for the pair of them, meaning if things go according to plan (first ever occurence for Gassy if it did) we'll see them round 3 v Essendon or the following week against the Lions, which sounds pretty good to me.
