Okay, quick summary from the little I've played:

+ Looks outstanding
+ Presentation designed to mimic a condensed version of a broadcast and works very well
+ Strategy has a bigger influence on race proceedings than ever
+ Driving is challenging, but the learning curve isn't as steep as in previous editions
+ Sound is awesome - particularly with the race engineer supplying helpful tidbits through the PS4 controller's speaker
+ Runs well
+ Simply, it's fun to play
+ Maldonado is as much of a dick as he is in real life
+ Cool ability to watch the AI drivers via helmet cam when in the garage in practice/qualifying

- Penalty system still nonsensical
- AI relentlessly stick to their line, even when you're on a flying lap and they aren't
- No ability to create your own driver is a big loss - this is the game mode they should be building the series around
- Lack of game modes and features

/ AI difficulty severely diluted
/ Minor inconsistencies in team/driver ability compared to reality; e.g. Red Bull car overestimated (although Kvyat seems to be absolutely hopeless), Mercedes underestimated
/ Drivability considerably improved but feels easier and not as rewarding
/ Drivability in the rain much more difficult

In a sentence: It's very fun and there have been some really nice changes, but the game is much shallower than previous editions.

Have to agree the driving feels easier though the wet is a good challenge. Though pretty realistic as the f1 cars are on rails. If you do a full go it might get tougher with tyre wear.

Also looking at a wheel. Anyone got and reccomend the t300 rs? Anyone gonna get the g29?

anyone tried to get onto these servers the last week or so?

been able to connect to like 2 online sessions since I bought this game, and I thought the EA servers were bad, codemasters really takes the cake in this area.

I can see what they were trying to achieve with the engineer, but they're still nearly completely useless.

Had a dry race turning wet the other night, wasn't raining yet and I needed tyres. I asked the weather forecast. No rain. So I box and put on the primes. 2 laps later it starts to spit. Engineer says on the radio we don't need to go inters yet. A couple laps later it starts to get heavy, about 1 corner before the pits the engineer gets on the radio and says "We need to pit for inters." So with hardly any reaction time I dive into the pits. And what do the campaigners do? They put on the ****ing options. Apparently doing what the engineer says isn't enough, in the 2 seconds between him telling me to pit and me pitting, I'm supposed to take my steering hand off the left stick, select Tyres > Inters and then pit. You can't select that after you enter the pits either, as soon as you pass the pit line those options aren't available. So of course I wasted a pit stop, spent another lap slipping all over the place, then pitted again and went from 1st to 13th in two laps. During the lap still on slicks I radioed for weather about 5 times to see if maybe it would dry up and I could avoid the inters, and every time he says "We don't have that information." Very ****ing handy.

And not as bad, but tonight I was defending a thin lead so had been on Fuel Mix 3 for a while. As the last lap started I radioed to check the fuel, he replied "We are out of fuel. No fuel left." Interesting. Flipped it back to Mix 1 and continued on. 20 seconds later he goes "Fuel update, we have 10% of fuel remaining." Then about 30 seconds later (and about 3 corners from the finish line) he goes "We have 1 lap worth of extra fuel to burn when you need it." No worries chief. :thumbsu:

anyone who want's to add me for some online racing please feel free to PM me for my PSID. Sick of waiting for codemasters to fix the hopper issues.

Note: for non-European regions this patch also includes all fixes from the v1.02 patch that was released in Europe last month.

Please let us know below how you feel about the patch and the changes we've made below.

We'll have more info on patches for the other platforms soon

just had a quick check, and yes, they have indeed fixed it. Looking forward to playing some online tomorrow night after the footy.

Finally tried online last night and found a match up. Don't think I'll be bothering again, since this is the kind of shit I had to put up with.

That's the worst. I hate players like that.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, the race after that was Japan, and I got in front of him and lead the whole race until on the very last lap he gunned it right through the last really slow chicane, cutting it at full speed and got no penalty. I was done after that.

I've always hated online racing. This just justifies my hatred for it

Got this game yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. I do hope they keep improving the engineer convos and what you can ask them, it seems like something that if expanded on could be super awesome and make long races even more interesting. Now to buy a wheel.

This year's edition sounds pretty good. :thumbsu: Will start a new thread when there's a bit more info.
F1 2016’s new career mode spans 10 seasons and will take you deeper into the world’s most glamorous, exciting and prestigious motorsport, both on and off the track. The life-like recreation of the sport will be further enhanced by the addition of the sport’s iconic Safety Car and Virtual Safety Car, which have been written from the ground up, as well as the introduction of the challenging new street circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan for the 2016 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE.
For the first time, the practice development programme allows you to take advantage of the tests done by the teams on a grand prix weekend. Master each circuit with our track acclimatisation tests, test your tyres and hone your race strategy to perfection, all whilst gaining valuable Research and Development points to spend on upgrading your car.

Mather continued: “With the re-introduction of the Safety Car as well as the addition of the Virtual Safety Car for the very first time, we are creating the most complete F1™ experience ever. This, combined with several features that are yet to be announced, should excite fans of the game and FORMULA ONE™.”
In the new career mode, you’ll be able to select an avatar to represent you within the game world, as well as choose a number to take with you through your career. You’ll be able to single out the helmet for you, and colour it however you choose. You’re then free to choose from any of the FORMULA ONE teams, all with different goals and expectations. You might decide to go down the more challenging route and start further down the grid, but it will also be easier to exceed your team’s expectations. You can earn contracts and move from team to team, or choose to develop your favourite team into a championship contender.
To complement the on-track experience, and to expand the realism of the Career mode, we’ve included stunning hospitality areas for each team that will act as your game hub. In this area you’ll work with our new, fully captured and voice-acted Research and Development Engineer and Player Agent to develop your progress both on and off the track. Earn Research and Development credits from all your sessions, from practice, to qualifying and the race, to spend on upgrading your car, and get ahead of the teams around you. To make it even more immersive, you’ll also be able to spot other key figures from the paddock within the hospitality areas.

At the very least, career mode sounds like a major improvement.

Hope so. I don't really play multi player so career mode is a must for me. The lack of a career mode killed my interest in F1 2015 quite quickly.
Yeah I must admit, while I stuck with this for a while because of the gameplay, there just wasn't enough to keep me coming back in the end. Didn't get anywhere near as much out of it as I usually do, which is unfortunate as the driving and presentation were both very smooth.

My wife bought me the game because of the allure of driving against Jacques Villeneuve (he is my all time favourite driver from when he dominated IndyCars) but I couldn't do the slog to unlock him.

Villeneuve was in F1 2015?! I clearly didn't play it enough either!
