Whew, can breathe again.... well done Vettel.
Bad luck Raikonen.

Great drive from Vettel, although I do think Pirelli need to reconsider their tyre estimations if the super soft predicted to last maximum 30 laps, went just about 40.
I know he is a passive guy and doesn't rock the boat, but I get the feeling that Bottas is a waste in that Mercedes car. Just doesn't have that ruthless edge to him that is required to win a championship. Will pick up the odd race now and then but not much beyond that.

Hopefully for the sake of the spectacle this Ferrari pace can be maintained throughout a season, unlike last year where they had a good fight for about 6 or 7 races then dropped away.

Shit race for RBR. The body language of Daniel Ricciardo suggests to me that these Ferrari rumours for 2019 are fairly substantial and we might see an announcement sometime into mid season. RBR would have to be a little concerned about putting all their eggs in the Max Verstappen basket as well, as he is prone to some pretty silly behaviour on the race track. The battle for who would be his team mate might come down to Sainz vs Gasly who had a terrific race to finish P4.

Fantastic drive by Vettel

Bottas kinda reminds me of a 1999-2001 Coulthard - as much as he, desperately, wanted to, he just wasn't good enough to compete with Schumacher & Häkkinen, good support driver though, or for that matter Eddie Irvine in 1999.

As much as I want them to, still not completely convinced that Ferrari have a sizable advantage, to be honest.

Pity about Kimi and the poor mechanic, really hope he isn't very badly injured, DC called it on air as a possible broken leg - which will be really unfortunate.
Have to feel for Kimi too. That having being said, he is really looking way more competitive this year, like he has gotten some mojo back! I'm thinking he might be contemplating retiring at the end of this season and that's just given him a little it of his edge back or just taken some of the pressure off.

Oh yeah, pretty awesome drive by Gasly, superb performance. Tell you what Honda might be starting to prove a point here.

On a different note, WTH is Verstappen doing? Another opportunity thrown away, there was no way that was Hamilton's fault! He keeps this up he will really develop a reputation!

Just watched the race - Gasly was amazing but Ericsson scoring points for Sauber was pretty good too. If only Bottas had been more aggressive!

Big criticism of him for mine, and it separates the top guys from him. Great driver but the others have something extra

No I shall not ever.
The only thing that would be funny to see is if the Aus Ferrari haters support him if he goes there.
You will, like you did with Vettel, and probably Schuey and Prost before him.

He will do alright as a second driver but as you say, he isn’t in the top league.

I never did dislike vettel, he was simply opposition, I know you lot detest him due to that anti webber conspiracy.
The others don't bring out all the cringe worthy names and sayings like the Aussies do.

That Ferrari pitstop was crazy.

I haven't watched a pitstop that closely for a while but is it common practice for the pit crew to stand in front of the tyre like that?
Sort of, they get out of the way pretty quick usually. It was more a fault of them dropping the car.

Aren't you Australian ??

Anyway, we will revisit this in a year after Seb and Dan have finished 1-2 in the first 2 races.

This is why I love Kimi. Pre-race he was asked about what changes he would make to F1, his answer, is 100% Kimi.

EDIT: Stupid thing keeps trying to embed the video instead of just posting the link. Click watch on Facebook in the middle to see it. Its worth it haha

Why dont the doc constructors points from the teams for replacing engines and gearboxes rather than penalising the driver with grid places?

Because it's considered a team sport, and the drivers benefit from the multiple millions spent on the cars including the engines, etc. and if they didn't penalise the driver, not all the team would be penalised.
