CheersBelter username too mate , wonder how many get the joke ??
I'm dragging the Old Crow family up the Hume for the day. They are up and about right now and led Essendon for a significant portion of last weeks game. If we start slowly again like the last two weeks I will be very concerned.
Who's going to the game? No surprise the AFL has scheduled this match for lunch-time on Mother's day.

Good grief.. It's not as if we came back from a quarter time deficit against Hawthorn a week ago, or anything...

Where's the Game Day thread? It's usually up like 24 hours in advance lately isn't it?![]()

It truly was. Quite a nice stadium, but almost completely empty. They reported a crowd of 5800+. I think they must have counted everyone three times. No way there were more than 3000 present.. I wouldn't even bet on more than 2000 spectators - most of whom were Adelaide fans. What an embarrassing crowd.

No way on earth that 1 seat in 5 was occupied today. Not at the game I attended anyway. It's capacity is about 25,000 since the upgrade.
The upgrade looks like a waste of time & money with low crowds turning up.
Not many if yesterday's attendance is anything to go by. They had a decent sized rent-a-crowd behind the southern goals, but their supporters were few & far between elsewhere around the ground.Do GWS have any fans only seen a few on BF

Let's put this all into context before we get too enamoured with the GWS bashing, it was a 1:10pm start on Mother's day, which is the worst time-slot of the year for live attendance. Barring Port and Gold Coast, we're probably the lowest drawing side they could have expected to play. If we'd had the same timeslot against GWS at Footy park, I'm guessing our crowd would have been 31K max.Not many if yesterday's attendance is anything to go by. The AFL has really opened up GWS to criticism with this one, and I can't believe they gave their most exposed expansion club such a ridiculous timeslot. Shows that as much as they want GWS/GC to succeed, they still don't want to hurt their almighty TV dollar or jeopardise their ratings bonus. They pulled 7-8K crowds at Skoda last year and should have been expecting to break 10K+ this year, but they never will with scheduling like that.
I take your point about the time slot, but the rest of your post just raises further questions.Let's put this all into context before we get too enamoured with the GWS bashing, it was a 1:10pm start on Mother's day, which is the worst time-slot of the year for live attendance. If you went by the GWS admission figures, you'd have to wonder whether the game was played in Tasmania, with the crowd counted on a "per head" basis.still
you'd get more people there in Tasmania....![]()

I hear what you're saying about being suspicious of the AFL's motives Vader, although I wouldn't agree that they inflated the crowd figure yesterday. It was a small crowd but I've been to plenty of SANFL games that have pulled 5K+ and the crowd was easily the same size.I take your point about the time slot, but the rest of your post just raises further questions.
How many people actually attended those games which allegedly attracted 7-8k crowds? The attendance yesterday was reported as 5800+. There is no way in this universe that it was more than 3k, probably closer to 2k.
We've often wondered whether the Port attendance figures were inflated. Maybe the are, maybe they aren't. On the basis of yesterday's evidence it appears that the AFL are inflating GWS' attendance figures by a factor of at least 2x, in order to make their puppet look better than it really is.
I agree Freo would pull less than us, probably North as well. I think the rest would be roughly on par but might get more travelling supporters. Our interstate support is awesome though, last year at the SCG the Crows supporters made more noise than the Swans 'fans'.You really think we would draw fewer than the Lions, dogs, Dees or roos? Even freo?
From memory, we're quite well supported interstate.
Which brings me to another question I asked myself yesterday - was the cheer squad at the game? I didn't get into the ground to see the teams run through the banners, but I looked around at several times during the game and couldn't see the cheer squad or anything that looked like it anywhere.
