The obvious lack of privacy associated with using Facebook (or any social networking site) became a real concern for me. Rather than deactivating my Facebook account, I took these steps to address the issue:

- Deleted all photos
- Untagged myself in photos I'd been tagged in
- Deleted all friends
- Deleted all private messages
- Deleted all wall posts
- Assumed a pseudonym
- Engaged strictest possible privacy settings

Nowadays, I only use Facebook to connect with the various groups I'm interested in.

To connect with friends online, I use an email service.
