So just found out today just how much information Facebook is collecting.
The only way they could know I'm away from family is from location tracking or through private messages.

I've already been here before, and deleted Facebook, but even if I only used messenger for communication, they still track everything. Unless I find a really good alternative for video calls I will need to keeep messenger. Its somewhat concerning. I also noticed the level of censorship on Instagram banning so many innocuous hash tags which will allow them to ban anything they don't like.

You can turn location tracking off in the facebook app. Can you delete facebook properly if you use messenger?

unfortunately it is still the easiest way to keep in contact with long distance friends. not a simple as just deleting it and moving on. otherwise absolutely i would.

You can have your facebook account deactivated and still use messenger yeah. I am unsure if you actually your facebook account (if they even let you) you can still use it though.

Facebook is just utter shite these days. My feed is just clogged up with shitty memes/pictures - "Anyone who has one of these last names is gay... TAG YOUR FRIENDS!!!" - and viral videos from pages like LadBible (who just steal all their content from other sources). It's a fugly-looking website. All the information storage doesn't really shock me because we've known about it for years... they don't even try to hide the fact they use all your details to target advertise.

I check it maybe a couple of times a week nowadays... usually just to see whether any of my high school classmates have moved overseas or died. I don't even bother posting anything on it anymore. If it wasn't for the Messenger feature I probably would've deleted it by now.

I love it, the easiest and best way to share photos with family all over the world. You can set it so that no one else can put things on your wall and no notifications...easy. I dont have anything on mine I dont put there myself and I dont look at anything except friends and family and one or 2 community groups. Some people have no idea how to use it.

I reunited with all my highschool friends through a reunion organised on FB which 500 people turned up to..absolutely amazing. If used for the right purposes its the best thing ever. People who air their shitfights or political agendas on FB have no one to blame but themselves.

No one cares about things other people put on there yet rush to share their own shit.
Therefore it ends up with a huge cluster**** of selfishness and ads.

I only really like interest forums like BF and gaming forums for social sites.

I rarely post myself but I would be lost without having an easy source for upcoming parties and events, and I follow a heap of fitness pages that have interesting articles.

I was searching for a heap of football clubs on Facebook and got a warning that I would be restricted if I kept it up. I found this page after finding out Steven Amell was having people restricted from his posts. Turns out Facebook is restricting people from liking too many pages or particular pages or comments. This shit is getting out of control. They're clearly controlling the content that is being shared, how many likes you can make, what you can like. This is censorship at its best.

I'm one of these Gen Y people I've been hearing about and I actually deleted all my social media. I only have Facebook messenger to chat to friends because it can run independently of Facebook.

So my only outlet to chat with people I don't know about topics that may or may not hold interest is here on BF.

I also found Facebook and other social media was having an adverse effect on my mental health.

I so want to get rid of it but living the last 6 years OS means it's my simplest way of keeping 'up to date' with what people back home, and friends around the world are up too, but I even find that shit boring. Wow you're having a cocktail in Tulum, or attending a bullfight in Spain, or taking selfies at WTC.... Who gives a **** in the end?

This is the irony. I want to stay informed with what people are doing, yet I find myself not giving a shit! No-one has life-changing moments daily, and I dont care for photos of your kids... You shouldnt even do that without their adult consent.

I hate the telephone so it's not like Im going to start calling people to hear how stuff is. I probably call my Mum once a month and even then I lose patience. Yet if I log on to FB, which is becoming once a day for a peek, she will message me almost instantly seeing I am online. Drives me nuts. I didnt log on to have a chat, I logged on as a passive observer.. like 98% of my time on this site. I'm here a hell of a lot, but post little in comparison to how much time I spend scrolling the boards.

I spent hours of the weekend walking my dog in Roman ruins, had lunch next to to an arena more grandiose than the coliseum. I put 20 litres of petrol into a diesel engine and had to get towed off the autoroute and charged 10 euros a litre for replacement fuel, I passed by the mountain some say Jesus was hidden and buried in. This stuff means something to me, my wife and my dog(and her familey(the Wife's)), but I dont post it on FB because why would anyone give a shit?

Instead I post it on BigFooty.

It was alright 10 or so years ago when the birds I had on FB were going on holidays and posting bikini pics. Now the same birds have had kids, added kilos and are posting about breastfeeding, not as fun.
