BBL has been great this year, need to get all the available test players playing max games. Head v Starc would be box office.

Rather them be rested for the sake of prolonging their International careers.
I liked both of your posts equally.

But this is the conundrum that we face with the BBL. For YEARS supporters have been crying out for more test player participation. The spike in interest when carey, starc, smith et al came back to play was palpable. But by not playing ensures they are well rested and as cmarsh said potentially prolong their international careers. of course, but NOT playing BBL should mean they dont get a so called automatic berth in major t20 events like world cups or olympics etc. That'd be the fair way to go but in life we know that isnt always the case.

Last night seeing smith bat is box office and great to watch. Could we see a time when these stars of the game retire from internationals and just play in the bbl, similar to that of the a-league when faded stars came to play and finish up?

Definitely in my opinion, good way to earn some coin while staying in Australia over summer.
You already see this with guys like Warner and Siddle now, and previously Lee, Warne, Ponting etc

I'd imagine Khawaja would follow suit next season, and hopefully guys like Smith, Starc, Lyon continue playing on post retirement

Getting these players to play will always be the drawcard for Australian viewers rather than top line internationals

They are playing multiple games plus throwing themselves around in the field in very hot conditions like we saw last night. Starc very nearly badly injured his shoulder fielding.
i mean, the game is objectively better and gets more viewers/crowds if the big players are playing. i don't see how you can disagree with that knowing that our next test is in august (aka months away from now).

injuries also aren't a death sentence. our 2023 ODI world cup winning team had players with many different injuries leading up to it and we still won, in india, vs india.

I think CA have got it right this year.

Leave it up to the players to decide.
Green, Head and Weatherald have opted not to play.
Why would Weatherald opt out? You'd think he'd welcome the freedom to play shots with no consequences. Green, I understand, he's got his IPL contract, and Head ... well Head never plays for South Australian teams anymore. He keeps making Test 100s on Adelaide Oval to remind us he is actually South Australian.

He said he likes to focus on one format at a time. Which is why he doesn't play one day cup games close to Shield games.
He knows his position in the Test side isn't secure at all and wants to concentrate on the rest of the Shield season to make his case

How did Hazelwood get injured again? What about Cummins? You can get injured getting out of bed, even on a golf course or getting chased around at a function :eyes:

A 3hr game where half of it is spent sitting down or standing around isn't going to impact their longevity.

On the flip side playing in a t20 comp where he's playing with more freedom could improve his poor-avg form. Heard he's dealing with potential illness & injury too.

What if next year none of the test players want to play? Cricket is in a battle with other sports for viewership, having guys like Smith play in the BBL helps gain attention.

They definitely won't play next year. We finish the series vs NZ and then get straight on the plane to India for the BGT.

Different things will work for different people. Starc is playing while Cummins is kicking back at the Australian Open

I'm pretty sure you can't force players to play.
South Africa's SA20 (or whatever it's called) being bought out by IPL franchises essentially meant that their men's test team didn't play at all through summer, as they wanted all the big stars to feature in those games. I'm sure if there's enough money involved CA will absolutely force them to play.

Seriously, if cricket can't win the battle for sports television viewership during the Australian summer when there's only the tennis on, it deserves to die.

I mean the AFL has enough scripting to basically be the AFE
I get its easy to shit on the AFL, but do you genuinely believe that the results of AFL games are scripted/pre-determined?

AFL would probably be one of the hardest sports in the world to result-fix.

I think it's incredibly naive to see a sport so intermingled with the betting industry and think that results aren't outwardly influenced in any way.
