Trying to get macreadys headshot perk. Done his mission but he doesn't idolise me yet. Didn't realise he was the
same MacCready from little lamplight

Anyone else done the cabot house mission and
sided with lorenzo? The Mysterious serum looks awesome (+5 strength!) but i didn't want to piss off MacCready by killing all the cabots...he's apparently not a fan

I sided with Lorenzo. The serum is cool for down south.
And you can steal the other gun anyway.

Getting the shishkebab was a nightmare, **** those flamers!. In the end I just ran straight through the building to reach the boss, some how manage to defeat him

Encountered my latest bethesda bug. Never ending battle music.

Killed some supermutants and it just kept going. Fast traveled. Battle music. Slept. Battle music. Reloaded save. Battle music. Talking to npc. Battle music. Buying some ammo from a caravanner. Battle music. Rooting cait. Battle music.

Turned it down in settings for a couple of hours because it got a bit much. Then turned it back up to see if it had quit. Battle music.

Force closing the game and rebooting fixed it

So, with the Fort Strong mission when you get on the vertibird to kill the Behemoth with the minigun. On Survival difficulty the minigun's too weak and the vertibird took too much damage before I killed it and it exploded. I got the whole death scene animation and dropped into the middle of the sea and shit, but then suddenly I wasn't actually dead and was on low health in the middle of the ocean greeted by Super Mutants throwing grenades at me

Got on shore and killed everything, but that was the strangest bug

I got one last night instant teleportation, goku would be so proud of me. Teleported cross a room straight behind a torrent

I managed to teleport halfway across the map. ****ed if I know

There is a way to do that deliberately. They use it for speed running. Its called cover sliding.

Finally got MacCready's killshot perk. Took ages but its as advertised. Can now 95% headshot a mirelurk from miles away with a pistol. Now dealing with preston's shit trying to get united we stand

First quest i took him on was the robbery job with Bobbi No Nose. Pretty funny because he stopped me once to compliment me on how honourable i was.

So how exactly does it work - getting the perk? Last night it came up with "Nick liked/loved that", is there something specific I need to do after those notifications?

Taking preston on quests almost seems pointless. Doesn't like anything. I might just grind the gun mod save thing.

Keep doing things they like. Eventually they'll say something like "have you got a minute?"

Have the convo. Most will result in them saying they like your style and ask for some assistance with some personal bullshit. It'll trigger a quest. Do that (sometimes 2) and they'll keep pulling you aside for a convo.

Eventually if you do stuff they like enough, and finish their quests, they'll idolise you and give you a perk.

Like any perk, its forever, even if they aren't with you. So thank them kindly, then put them to work hoeing tatos and start on the next companion

Finally made it to the institute but by the time I was bored shitless of the game so rushed to the end.

A big meh from me.

Depends who you side with imo. I can't elaborate, no spoiler tags on crapatalk

At a guess I'm thinking
you thought Railroad was the better side? The Institute ending is definitely 'meh'!

I just went through and finished both Railroad and Institute endings (don't care to ever do a BoS one, they're total dickbags - other than Haylan and Danse...eventually).

I'm sticking with
The Railroad ending, feels more apt
. Overall it's taken me just shy of 150 hours, 150 hours I never thought I'd put into a Fallout game. But it had me absolutely enthralled mostly to the end (the Institute stuff was a fair bit boring - ****ing board meetings?! REALLY?!!). Ended up finishing the game at level 86 and bar from doing any companion side missions I believe I've done everything - I spent about 50% of the game with dogmeat and then Piper, didn't really realise until too late that it's worth rotating through every companion for their perk. I've found 322 locations (does anyone know exactly how many locations there are in the game in total?). I've seemingly still got some leftover stuff to do following on from my choice (anyone know what the
Insitute gives out in terms of missions after the finale? Anything worth doing?
) so I'll finish those up and that'll just about do me for this game.

Overall a damn good game, story wise it definitely could've been improved. It's just weird to have the whole tracking/revenge story while you do a whole bunch of other shit for 100+ hours. It's almost like they want you to rip through the story as quickly as possible and then go do the other stuff. But I did it the complete opposite way, getting everything else done then going through the story at a rate of knots right at the end (which in hindsight was not the ideal scenario as I was spamming through a heap of the dialogue as I was mostly wanting to get to the end).

A weird one for me was
how the Minutemen seemingly don't feature at all in the story at the end. It all came down to The Institute, Railroad and BoS. I assume maybe they would've played more of a part had I gone to Sanctuary and spoken to them when building the teleporter. I just found it weird that the initial starting point for this game was the Minutemen and yet I had zero interaction with them in the last quarter of the game.

I'm guessing it's because they wouldn't have wanted you to betray the Minutemen due to that whole initial setup? Still, I did find it weird that all this shit went down and I didn't so much as even say hi to Preston.

Not GOTY for me, that honour still goes to the Witcher 3. But I'm really glad I picked this up, despite my hesitations and I'm now a Fallout convert!

I sided with the BoS for a while, even gave them intel on a couple of The Institues plans. In the end i wanted to live safe and clean underground, so i sided with The Institute.

The main storyline was boring so whatever ending i went with wasn't going to interest me in the slightest.

Sweet, got Nick's and Strong's now. Didn't really see the point in changing characters but it seems worth it now and will keep trying out others.

Are the BoS deliberately terrible at flying their helicopters? They crash them every five minutes. And I was in the middle of a battle and the morons crashed one through the roof and into the room I was in right on top of me. Smashed off 3 quarters of my HP and crippled my arm.

The verticopters must be made out of glass. They seem to have an inexhaustible supply though

Definitely spend the caps on MacCready and get his killshot perk. Its the best of the lot. Being able to 95% headshot all the time makes things almost too easy. I am going to up the difficulty tonight because of it

I've got him following me around now - what makes him happy?

On another note, I got Eddie's Piece last night and modded it up, with the pistol damage +100% perk and the +50% limb damage I'm having a lot of fun just doing leg shots and killing people.

MacCready is an ex gunner so likes it when you steal shit, use sarcasm, pick red locks, make people give you more caps for quests. That sorta thing.

But he isn't fully evil, so don't kill innocents etc

He'll ask you to help him with a couple of quests, and even once you complete them you may need to keep him for a while before he'll give you the perk.

I am very confused. I think I did the mission 'Institutionalised' earlier than I was meant to in comparison to the rest of the story. I met up with a courser to re-claim a synth, and the brotherhood of steel rocked up and started trying to kill it. The courser is murdering them and I'm teamed up with both. I'm allied with the brotherhood of steel, not to mention I have the brotherhood of steel companion bloke with me. Story has gone a bit everywhere.
