Music is rather depressing. So far just keep finding burnt people trying to hurt me :(

Do you have the radio on or just the in game music? turn on the radio in your pip boy

The scorched make up 90% of the early enemies

Just the game music I think! The combat is pretty...basic I guess? Dunno, just gets confusing when 4-5 scorched are gunning at you and you have no idea where from.

Where the red mark shows on your screen is the direction your getting shot at

Turn the radio on on your pipboy, fallout music is the best

Yeah, got that, although they are almost always stuck in foliage or just hidden in shadow.

And Molerats blink in and out of the ground for him and move so much you cant actually hit them with your first 1-2 shots :(

They are rather weak so you can just wait for them to come close and then shoot them, they don’t do much damage if they bite you once

Yeah, the damage taking seems pretty low. Was struggling to find some Radaway though. Will be interesting to see how the game goes when its live.

Detailed B.E.T.A review

What I liked
  • Environment is detailed and sharp (e.g clear water).
  • Not packed with online players so you don't feel too crowded.
  • Controls are similar to FO:4
  • Enough animals to kill.
What isn't working
  • Lack of NPCs is a negative.
  • Sooo many holotapes.
  • Linear missions are just plain repetitive. Worse than Preston's settlement saving.
  • Costs caps everytime you move your C.A.M.P or fast travel.
  • When you want to talk to people on there, you get nothing.
  • Everyone is off quicker than a brides nightie.

I enjoyed the holotapes and played about 10 hours and didn't get too bored of the missions you're still following a story just moving through the map.

Some of the perks need reworking dromedary and fast metabolizer are redundant since you can hot swap perks they should be joined.

Few frame rate stutters but otherwise it runs pretty well and it was a pain in the ass trying to and together wall pieces on the side of a hill to close in my camp.

The always on mic is the dumbest shit ever i decided today to collect a bunch of guns off the scorched near my camp and go to the vault and hand then out to new people for a laugh and my 1 year old was making noise in the same room and all i hear is 'someones baby is making a **** load of noise how do i turn this shit off'

I get the feeling bethesda hq is panicking over cancelled preorders to randomly open the beta like this after the entire marketing campaign revolving around preorder to play the beta
I'm pretty sure there trying to test the servers with an increased demand. Remember The whole point of this beta was to try and "break it early"

They copped a lot of flack especially with the pc bug that deleted peoples game and power armour editions came back on stock on every platform.

I get stress testing but surprise codes for everyone after pushing preorder to play the beta and flat out saying there would be no open beta it's a panic move.

I know most wont agree with this, but being an oldschool RPG/MMOer, I think they should have done this:

4 vaults. Each of those vaults are experiments set up, like most vaults are, to test people in different ways:

Vault 1 trains people in hand to hand combat, physical weapons and armor, so forth. AKA Tanks.

Vault 2 trains people in ranged weapon proficiency, producing assault like classes, snipers, demo, things like that. AKA Dps

Vault 3 trains people scientifically. They excel at using things like turrets, robots, healing type equipment. AKA DPS/Heals

Vault 4 inflicts people with radiation experiments, letting players use different mutations to play with. They could mutate thick armor, mutate healing tendrils or just mutate weapons. A hybrid class.

Keep perks and SPECIALS the same as usual, but let people have a clear defined choice in what they are/play and are aiming towards. This game must have some sort of endgame, and it seems its going to be just everyone shooting and healing themselves when they take damage.

Damn right it's a panic move. Most open world online games have B.E.T.A sessions that go for 24hr periods to cater for the peak times around the world. These times don't even suit half the American population on one side of America.

I know many of my mates have cancelled their pre-order because they were told they would get a chance to go on the B.E.T.A. They used up downloads to download the B.E.T.A and then once the release schedule was out, cancelled their pre-order because it's at times they need to work.

You will not get a strong gauge on if the servers can handle the game when it doesn't cater for peak times world wide which isn't at bloody 5am - 2pm on week day in Australia. It might suit America and some parts, but doesn't cater for Japan/China/Australia etc and Japan is one of the biggest gaming countries.

I'm pretty sure most fallout games are banned in China because of the whole the Chinese commies bombed us story.

But yeah the times are horrible i think the limits are partly due to then not wanting people to finish the game during the beta as well and realise it's light on content. But surely they could do so am us times to cater for the asian market that would still be in us office hours as well.

They are very much making it up as they go

I think anyone who purchases the game knows it will be light on with content like most online only games.

The times are flat out insulting those who paid up to get it.

Yeah i got up at 5 on Friday to play a bit before work after having my game deleted on Wednesday.
Prob get up tomorrow as well i paid my $300 and I'll damn well get my monies worth :p

For a company that made Elder Scrolls Online, which literally covers an entire continent, I would've expected a bit more.

I wonder if the no NPC thing was just a way to get this out quicker.

i had a bit of a go yesterday & this morning... some of my thoughts:

good: - it feels like fallout (well the last one anyway). the world, while a bit greener so far looks slick and polished, a lot of detail, but all the buildings, cars, etc feel familiar. i didnt get this with elder scrolls online compared to say skyrim or oblivion imo.
- even with the lack of npc's there is seems quite a lot of info to gather, this time more from notes, computers & holotapes instead of conversation.
- there look to be a lot of unique locations to discover.
- i have just been "lone wolf" so far, just having fun exploring & doing quests
- the camp building isnt really required. so i wont be bothering with this (i didn't in F4 either). you can just make a couple of workbenches to repair, a stash box, etc and you're good to go.

bad: - quests so far seem pretty lame. i did a couple of events as well which were also lame. hope they get better.
- so far all the weapons, armour & enemies seem familiar. would have been good to get a re-work of a lot of stuff, although i guess re-using assets is how they pulled off making the game quick. found some later game weapons which i stashed, nothing special there. scorched are basically just re-skinned feral gouls.
- without the conversation & choices, different ways to finish quests etc. its really lost the role-playing part. its just kinda an exploration/action game.
- worst for last here: i had 3 dudes in a party kill me, then follow wherever i respawned to kill me again. for a good 20 mins until i guess they got bored. really lame.

overall i want to play more, will defs give it a good crack when it comes out but idk how much staying power it will actually have. feel whether it ends up being enjoyable or not will depend on whether you do find some good dudes to team up and stuff around with or not. im sorta 50/50 on it atm

You can block people so they can't see you or log our and back in on another server

yeah i ended up logging out and back in again. solved but you shouldnt have to do that shit. like there was no gain for them in killing me multiple times apart from being dicks. and like 90% of people online are dicks lol. will be interesting to see how it goes after launch
