Can't get my head around it - say you build a decent camp with a bunch of others and then you go offline for a day, come back and it's all been destroyed?

the c.a.m.p had a blueprints tab, they said you can pack it up and move it. I'm assuming you can pack it up when you log then put it back down when you come back especially since you will be on a different server every time

Didn't they say you don't lose any progression, items etc. when you die?

Yeah they said that which surely means that your settlement blueprints are just continually autosaved? You could lose a lot of progression and items if you were in the middle of building a settlement and got nuked before you saved.

Hopefully we find out a lot more soon. I want to be excited for this but i just can't quite get there with the limited info we have.

Two concerns I have:
1.I assume that external mods will be either entirely unavailable or severely inhibited for multiplayer.
2. What happens to the use of VATs?

VATS is no more. For this game at least.

VATS is non existent I believe
VATS is no more. For this game at least.

I guess my concern is that there will be too many compromises on the typical Fallout gamestyle/offering in order for this to be a multiplayer experience. As such this might not this appeal to the players who have been committed to the series previously.

Good on Bethesda for trying something different, but I won’t be getting this. Online-only with other players who can mess you up forces a certain pace on the game; I prefer to take my time if I want to go and explore, progress, experience things.

Playing online is putruid people are just campaigners to try and work with
I think that may be a big obstacle if it's not addressed. I'm hoping that they balance the game so that there are big incentives for people to work together, but at the same time there only a small temptation to raid/kill others for lot.

On the surface this could be a great game if they get the balance right.

What I'd do if I was creating this game.
- The option is for you to either be the leader/overseer or dweller/settler. Pretty much you are either the host of your friends or you are joining a friends game.
- There should be a Karma system to your characters. This will identify if you are trustworthy to other players. Through dialogue you make commitments/promises. If these are broken then it impacts massively on the karma.
- The karma can only be affected by other players you are not friends with on the network. This is to avoid misleading others by having friends giving the karma a boost.
- I would have the amount of karma information revealed tied to your perception SPECIAL. Having nothing to perception won't reveal anything about the other players karma. Having a bit of perception will reveal their Karma level. Having a lot of perception you can see the actions they actually took to increase/decrease their karma. The karma level is tied to the players team, ultimately the buck stops with the leader/overseer. If one of your friends had been a troll against your wishes. Then don't invite them in future.
- I would make it so that the higher charisma level, the bigger rewards for when going on missions with other settlements/groups for both you and them. This will make it more tempting for others to work with you rather than to raid you.
- Go back to having a limited levelling up. This will make people specialise their characters and make it more interesting when working as a team. For example, if everybody in a team puts all their SPECIAL into Rifles rather than hand guns or lockpicks then everybody in the team will be fighting over rifle ammunition and miss out on a lot of loot. It should be encouraged to have people in the team with different skill sets. All having a limit to levelling up like Fallout 3 will mean that you won't have Demi-gods walking around the wasteland, while people who are starting out won't stand a chance.

Apart trying to avoid people trolling, the other thing that is a must in this game would be get the right balance. With the previous fallout games there were clear skills/SPECIAL which were better than others. For example Charisma/Luck were nowhere near as important to the others in Fallout 3. In Fallout 4 Endurance was nowhere near important as the others.

That sort of makes sense but what if the others you've 'team up with' go online while you are not?

Everyone has their own camp with their own blueprints I would guess. Hopefully you can share blueprints between friends so you can all build together and then everyone saves the blueprint.

Im pretty sure VATS is in it, but it's in real time instead of slowing it down.

So you get dominated by people who can actually shoot while you are busy trying to select targets in VATS :P

So I've had someone tell me you can play entirely offline, but everything I've read is contradictory to that

Considering one of the first things he said yesterday was 'Fallout76 is entirely online' someone is lying to you

Wanted KOTOR 3, got The Old Republic.
Wanted Elder Scrolls VI, got Elder Scrolls Online.
Wanted new Mass Effect, got Anthem.
Wanted new Fallout, got this.

I hate this online only type shit. People are asshats. Give me an atmospheric game world and an engrossing story any day of the week.

Concerned that this will be the death of Fallout. They're just making it an online FPS now? Just feels so far removed from what the games are supposed to be. They clearly made a conscious effort to improve the action aspects in F4 and neglected the RPG side.

Dream scenario is Bethesda giving up on making Fallout RPGs and giving Obsidian the reigns again.

If you think of 76 as their prototype Fallout similar to NV, this isn't one of the numbered games it's them trying something different.

If they continue it into Fallout 5 then everyone can hit the panic button.

Also none of the main people from NV work at Obsidian anymore

Obsidian nailed New Vegas. We can dream for another one like that...
